This was a very difficult whisky to identify as it seemed like a lot of other whisky’s from the Speyside. My first impression was that of a Glenlossie. The nose is quite well balanced but needs some time to open up. It’s quite delicate and sweet. But on the palate it’s quite spicy and almost rough. An interesting dram to sip and yet again a good quality whisky from Van Wees.

    Tasted blind during PO2016
    • Nose
A fresh, sweet and subtle whisky with aromas of grains, grass, floral tones (buttercups), grapes, apple, pear, dried fruits (figs, plums and a hint of dates), cedar wood, orange juice, tangerine from a can, lemon zest, hay, honey, butter, aniseeds, pear drops, banana, toffee, hint of berries and subtle oak.
    • Taste
A spicy, sweet and fresh whisky with aromas of licorice root, pepper, ginger, red apple, honey, fennel seeds, bayleaf, tannins, spices (cinnamon), herbal tea, toffee, caramel, vanilla, banana, hint of coffee, lemon zest, almond paste, grapefruit peels, a hint of berries, unripe pear, and spicy oak.
    • Finish
A medium long and drying finish with aromas of pepper, tannins, honey, icing sugar, lemon zest, cereals and spicy oak.

Tasted during a blind tasting competition in May/June 2016.
    • Nose
Fruity, vanilla, floral (almost perfume-y), loads of anise once in a while, white pepper and sweet banana candy.
    • Taste
Full swing on the vanilla! Waxy mouthfeel at first, then spices - cinnamon notably, which make it a tad drying. Banana again, and also a peppery punch.
    • Finish
Keeps lingering, anise coming forward, slightly drying with a peppery punch at the end.

    • Nose

    • Taste
Honey, banana, chillipeper, grass, oak, ground coffee, lemon and grapefruit.
    • Finish
Medium, dry, lemon zest, fresh and tingling.

    84/85. OK but I'm glad I didn't but it.
    • Nose
Dirty and clean at the same time. Washing-up liquid, almond, orange, citrus, toffee, bread and a whiff of raspberry. Perhaps a bit of puke. Later a touch of honey makes it better, especially when adding water.
    • Taste
Almond, orange, pepper, vanilla. With water honey and dough.
    • Finish
Quite some smoke remains. Barley, vanilla and whitefish.
