Glengoyne 1972, do I need to say more?
    • Nose
Fresh and fruity sweetness of bananas, lychees and pineapple. Coconut as well. Polished oak. Perfumy. Flowery notes of jasmine and violet.
    • Taste
Unexpectedly oaky punch for a 46%. Toasted oak. Lots of vanilla and some honey. Oranges and tangerines. Gooseberries. Also baked apples and rhubarb.
    • Finish
Quite long. Bitter-sweetness. A little nutmeg. Gingery. A bit minty

  2. Allandale scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

    A real palate whisky.
    • Nose
Still very fresh and sweet nose with some peach mint and a touch of bran behind. In time there's just a hint of bung cloth, giving an indication of age. Water; clean linoleum.
    • Taste
Give it some time to develop and you get a lightly oxidized  quality  that suggests refill Sherry and, from that point on, it begins to build into light  quince and some coriander -like lemon  spiciness. Complex.
    • Finish
Only now does it show the time spent in cask with touches  of liquorice and leather.

Since the acquisition of Glengoyne distillery in Stirlingshire by Ian Macleod
Distillers Ltd in 2003, a wide range of new Glengoyne expressions have been
released. The latest dates from 1972, and in keeping with the trend for ever
more luxurious and inventive presentation in the ?super-premium? category, it is
offered in a gold spirit safe, complete with gold bottle label and black neck
tag, plus a velvet pouch for the safe?s lock and key. A tasting notes booklet is
also included. Iain Weir, Marketing Director for Ian Macleod Distillers Ltd,
notes ?I am delighted with the creation of this 1972 vintage. It not only tastes
superb, but really looks fantastic too. I am sure it will have real appeal to
the connoisseur, collector and gifting market. We pride ourselves on quality and
style but I think we have really outdone ourselves this time!? A lovely, sweet,
floral nose. Notably fruity, with peaches, pineapples and melons. Big bodied and
viscous in the mouth. Rich malt and fresh spicy fruits. Intensely fruity when
diluted, with a greater emphasis on spice. The finish is long and slowly drying,
with nothing negative to suggest 35 years in a cask. Remarkably fresh and
vibrant for its age. Great maturation of first class ?new make? spirit.

  4. Rustamich did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

The nose promised smoothness, the palate delivered dry oakiness. Water cuts the edges but enhances bitterness and spices.
    • Nose
Perfumy. Starts with cereal notes entwined with fruit and oak. Barley sugar, peardrop, gooseberry, polished floor. Then herbal notes break through. Linden tree.
    • Taste
Good velvety feel stiffened by grippy oak.
    • Finish
      Dry, spicy, oaky.

    • Nose
Fruity aromas of banana and sweet fruit punch associated with rich and subtle floral notes of apple blossom, nectarine, grapefruit and hints of vanilla and dried oak
    • Taste
Light and syrupy character with initial hints of licorice and spicy zoetigheud. Followed by a series of notes as delicate lemon peel, cashew nuts and an explosion of rich, sweet honey and light oak with hints of bitter almonds and aniseed
    • Finish
Moderately long finish that is sweet and warming followed by candied oranges and sweet persimmons
