- Quite a lovely dram. Nice, balanced, no off-flavors, rather creamy, and totally chuggable. An exemplary entry level dram.
- another version of this one has no volume and percentage notification
- N: Familiar older style malt with a dry, grassy/straw like maltiness, savoury=sweet apples, pear skins, old leather jackets, malty pancakes, oatmeal, apple sponge, light pomegranate, lemon & cherry juice, liquorice, smoky figs & prunes pampas grass, cold steel and wet botanicals. Easy and fun to read.
T: Relaxed, tempered arrival albeit a tad restrained. Develops on soft, waxy/light/sour=sweet, grainy malt with a touch of peppery-apple spice, marjoram, pear & plum tart and crab apples. Water provides an improved mouthfeel which wasn’t bad to begin with. Theres also more maltiness now with pomegranate, prune & cherry juice and dry>smoked heather. Goes soft fresh with more waxiness.
F: After a medium length unravel theres a touch of caramel coupled with a dusty, dryish heather and black tea finish. Later theres light vanilla and aniseed that turns to milk of magnesia. With water theres less magnesia, more vanilla and prune juice with heaps of dried heather at the death.
C: Ive heard more recent versions of the 12yo don’t cut it , and i had a shocking example in 2013 - but this one [bottled around 1998], although a tad restrained is very enjoyable and perfectly acceptable. Happy to drink this one again.
