Whisky Reviews for Karuizawa 1984

  1. MaltTown scored this whisky 94 points Member Junior

The whisky that went into Sherry Cask #3662 was distilled and filled in 1984. While it matured for 29 years, the distillery closed, never to produce another drop. Bottled at a fiery cask strength of 61% in 2013 exclusively for whisky retail giants Shinanoya and The Whisky Exchange, the barrel yielded just 271 bottles. Most of those bottles have been sold at auction and have long since disappeared into collection around the globe. Labelled with a beautiful artwork featuring a crane beneath the rising sun, this single malt is deeply dry and woody, with rich with coffee beans smashed on an oak chopping board, worn leather and Cuban cigars.

Interesting that this was never sold via TWE, even though it is said to be a (shared) TWE bottling. Wonder where the bottles went...
