    Good but not great.
    • Nose
Sherry, sweet, fruit & nuts, coconut, mint, stuffed chocolates, raisins, apples, dates, banana & pineapple.
    • Taste
Sweet sherry, orange, raisins, nuts, wood.
    • Finish
More wood, herbs, spices, sweet fruity sherry, nuts, lemon peel. Rather short.

Nose: Sweet raisin, lovely wood texture, hint of vanilla and pineapple. Other overripe tropical fruit. Intense and complex nose, yet sweet and familiar.

Taste: sweet sweet honey, marzipan, marmelade, red fruit and some old hints of the classic rothes taste. Everyone will love this. Yet less complex as the nose.

    Body: soft as silk.

Finish: medium- long: sweet more wood, less red fruit, yet tasty.

Price: for a 13yo a bit high. But considering the other spirits it might be well priced.

Presentation: Don't know this was a sample.

It s ok but nothing to get excited about.
    • Nose
Nice nose, warm jam sponge cake, marzipan and slight ginger note.
    • Taste
Too thin on the palate for me, and it is hot without much flavour. I get a little caramel traces of orange and a very slight biter note.
    • Finish
      Quite short and dry

Nice dram, not very suprising, but good value for money
    • Nose
Fruit, green apples, soft, slight alcohol smell, shoe polish, cacao
    • Taste
bit sharp around the edges, soap,
    • Finish
strong aftertaste, dark pure chocolate, with a bite.

    Thanks for the sample Whiskybase!

    Very nice dram.
    • Nose
A fruity jam of oranges and berries combined, with a healthy dose of date syrup (silan).

Opens up and developes with time.
    • Taste
Sweet, and smooth. Not too oaky.

A fruity sourness joins, with drying spices (cinnamon and cloves).
    • Finish
Here the wood is felt more, a balanced baked oakiness, lightly toasted. A little bitter, but dry fruits keep the balance.

Really fruity nose (reminds me of the tinned fruit my grandmother used to serve with ice cream!), with some lovely hints of well-aged whisky in the background (old leather, hessian bags, well-integrated oak, engine oil and a hint of something grassy/herbal). One drop of water opened the nose up even more. Very similar profile on the palate, mixing sweet fruits with herbal elements. Medium-length finish, again showing both bright notes from (I assume) a younger whisky in the blend and more elegant/restrained oak notes from the older whiskies. Incredibly easy to drink. Fantastic stuff!

Ruben (WN):Nose: fragrant, juicy sherry. Raspberry, cherries (including a little
kirsch) and oranges. A bit of redcurrant jam. Gentle vanilla notes and
some nice mint. Mouth: medium bodied sherry, full of rum & raisins
and quite some honeyed notes. Nice hints of orange liqueur and kirsch
again. Fresh plums. Cinnamon. Fruit teas as well as some herbal notes
and green oak, which may well come from the much older Glenrothes /
Tamdhu components. Finish: long, on red fruits and a green oakiness. An uncommon recipe that works very well. You get a good dose of
well-aged elements, including the oak, but it’s mixed with younger,
brighter notes. More of these mash-ups please.

    Score: 88/100

This whisky is what is nowadays called a blended malt. It contains malt whisky from more than one distillery. Nothing special so far, but this blended malt was not blended short before bottling but long before that.
In 2001 some leftovers were poured in a sherry butt. These leftovers were from Glenrothes and Tamdhu. These whiskies couldn't fill the entire butt and it was topped of with newmake spirit from a certain Speyside distillery that can never be named. The whisky is bottled at cask strength which is only 44.7%. This probably shows that the age of the Glenrothes and Tamdhu was already high in 2001.
The endresult is a delicious extremely drinkable, well aged sherried whisky.
