Whisky Reviews for Balvenie 15-year-old
3 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 86.36 points
- Correct and drinkable, but totally unsurprising. I expected much more from Balvenie here.
Starts off with vanilla, sugar, butter, wax. After a while, a rather mild sherry cask influence starts taking over - oranges, apricots, peaches. Slightly spirity despite the low strength.
Feels a bit thin. Biscuits, candy floss, vanilla, honey, a bit of light fruit notes with apricots and oranges again.
Quite long, on orange zest, white sugar and a pinch of pepper.
- There's a lot to like here. The palate might be a bit sharp at times, but nothing too worry about too much. A proper sherried Speysider.
Subtle and non-intrusive. Earthy with tobacco notes and dried leaves. Sand cookies also. Behind all that is a sweetness. Cherry lemonade, honey and golden syrup. The balance is very good.
The palate has a dry and spicy touch with cloves and cinnamon. But raisins, milk chocolate and dark brown sugar make for a sweeter aspect, as do hints of honey.
Raisins and sugar, with a slight dryness. Medium in length.
