I like that, I gave him the 89 points at the Feis 2015 and I was surprised how badly he got on with the rest. Today I still find it very good, but one point less would have done it, but I wasn't there where everything tastes better ;-)
    • Nose
The nose screams Kilchoman, creamy, sweet, hazelnut, cinnamon, rather light smoke for Kilchoman, vanilla, blindly I would discuss Sauternes purely here, coffee, floral notes can also be found as an undertone, malt, so probably malt coffee at the end, sour yellow Fruit, lemon as a light overtone, banana flashes briefly when you smell it deeply
    • Taste
Sweet, cinnamon, ash, stronger smoke than in the nose, vanilla, creamy, also here Sauternes feelings, hazelnut cream, cake topping, quite sweet, slightly lemon, apricots
    • Finish
Also sweet in the aftertaste, the smoke stays but becomes less, some cinnamon still, Kilchoman through and through what he delivers, now again a bit floral, grassy, sweetened tea

Kilchoman 10th Anniversary Release, bottled in 2015, 58.2% alc. Original bottlings. Ageing: Bourbon and Sherry casks

Nose: Not as strong as I expected. First I smell some bandages and iodine, behind them cold ashes and a wood-fired oven. Freshly baked crusty bread follows, some caraway, vanilla pudding and far away I smell the sea.

Palate: Fairly peppery and sharp. Colorful pepper, freshly peeled ginger, plus some smoke and the hint of mild citrus fruits, burnt caramel and somehow also grilled asparagus.

Finish: Medium long and unfortunately clearly alcoholic, here comes the bandages again, disinfectant and pepper.

Conclusion: A fairly simple bottling by Kilchoman standards, although not a bad one. However, the alcohol doesn't seem particularly well integrated. 82/100 points (2022)

It will take a while before I will taste another Kilchoman. If could be just weak/average peat driven malt but it's even worse - full of false sweet notes that I don"t want to name at all. It"s been a while since i tasted such a bad whisky..

Exciting enough that you will not get bored. He really does not tear me off the stool, though.
    • Nose
Citrus, cold ash, sweet malt, herb bed, hay
    • Taste
Sharp start with lots of lemon and subtle ash, sweet molasses, subtle herbal notes in the background, light tropical fruit (apricot, pineapple), coconut
    • Finish
Medium-long, decaying ash, which is replaced by herbal notes, becoming drier with increasing saltiness

  13. GJR scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Not as hefty ashy as other Kilchomans, but it is very good balanced and just simply very very enjoyable.
    • Nose
A bit restraint for Kilchoman measures. Lots of fruit combined with earthy ashy peat smoke.....
    • Taste
Spicy, a bit burnt notes and very pleasant ashy peat smoke
    • Finish
Lingering peat, in all its simple beauty.

    Colour: Gold

    Body: Full

Nose: Quite rich and complex. Sweet, spicy, fruity, smoky, mineral and green notes. Quite creamy, a little popcorn maltiness, vanilla pod, green oak, lemon and lime citrus, peach and apricot. More Sherried and fruitily sweet after a bit.

Water: Softer, darker and less green. Soft lemon, chocolate, oak coming out with liquorice, a little dry with peated grist. Tobacco and some Sherried fruit developing after a bit.

Taste: Sharp arrival, lovely lemon zest and peel, then stony lemon juice with peat smoke developing and mingling with it. I wouldn't it's say complex but it's integrated and powerful.

Water: Softer arrival, fruity at first then cold sea water. Oak developing with Sherry fruit, liquorice and some oakiness, a little tannic and much more drying, then powerful smoke really kicks up with the stony lemon juice coming back. More bitter and tannic after a bit.

Finish: Long length. A peaty puff, then lasting lemon citrus and mineral smoke. With water- More sherried and oaky with tannins, coffee and chocolate.

    N-
Almond and nutty. Huge pungent ashes smokes in the glass. Solid dried
fruits. With water-salty and mineral sea shell, malt sweetness and
    grassy.

    P- Sweet monk fruits,
fig and intense burning smokes. Full strength and mouthwatering. With
water- more approachable with fresh sour berries and touch of vanilla.

F- Long and intense. Immensely spicy and deep, creamy. With water- sweet berries jam. Stiff and serious.

delicious, but could have been a well matured Bourbon single cask. The shares of the individual vintages would have been interesting, I estimate at 3000 bottles, a barrel per year. Quite complex, interesting notes. One may be curious about the older bottlings.
    • Nose
Pure: on the one hand intense smoky, cold ashes, campfires, maritime, on the other hand citrus fruit like the 100% Islay. Great combination. After a while, yeast dough, cereal, caraway. Interesting. With water: more herbs, herbal, still a lot of smoke, less sweet, rocky coast.
    • Taste
Pure: not as sharp as expected, spicy smoke, salt and bread crust, some honey sweetness, hardly any fruit. Tasty and powerful! With water: looks younger, more spicy and herbaceous here, not so sweet anymore. I like it better.
    • Finish
long, a lot of smoke, already a bit mature from the oak palpable.

  20. The Macallan scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

Very nice, but I have seen better versions.
    • Nose
Peat smoke, fruity, vanilla, floral (lavender)
    • Taste
      A sweet smokiness, briny, drying
    • Finish
      Powerfull with a nutty aftertaste

  21. Hare&Copper scored this whisky 89 points Expert Senior

    • Nose
Cigarette butts, ashtray, salty, newspapers, dusty glasses, musty wardrobe, little peat, burning rubber
    • Taste
Smoke, vegetal, custard, bandages, butterscotch, sweet
    • Finish
      Long, ashy, icing sugar

  22. Segens scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

A dram which is very nice but I missing that special thing on this dram Nevertheless nose, taste and finish are incredibly nice!
    • Nose
salt, smoke, honey (Bourbon of course), peat
    • Taste
salty again but sweeter then some grapes, herbs and pepper
    • Finish
Long salty smoke. Very nice as usual from Kilchoman

    Color: Amber

Nose: Some very sweet peat smoke, citrus. A farm-note is also to be found. After some time in the glass some it smells like pork on a BBQ! This is a great nose that could keep me busy for hours. I love that sweet barley note most Kilchomans have.

Taste: First you get a blast of peat, followed by the sweet barley. There's a very earthy, green note in there as well that brings it somewhat out of balance.

Finish: medium-long finish, drying the mouth somewhat. The sweet barley continues alongside some lemon juice and cotton candy.

A good Kilchoman, too bad the green note brings it out of balance a bit. The palate doesn't quite live up to what the nose promises.http://whiskyinformer.com/home/kilchoman-10th-anniversary

Beautiful, classic Kilchoman nose, with elements of bourbon casks (sweet vanilla) and sherry casks (rich fruits) alongside the soft peat smoke. A drop of water released more sugary notes (pear drops and cola cubes). Great stuff that promised much on the palate...that sadly didn't materialise. The overwhelming taste is one of 'green' bitterness (an overly young or duff cask in the mix?) and some hot white pepper and chillies. It lacks either the bourbon freshness or sherry richness I associate with other Kilchoman releases I've tried previously. The finish is better, with lingering aspects of rich cream and soft peat smoke (although the bitterness never fully disappears). A really difficult one to score this. I really admire Kilchoman and have loved many of their previous releases. This contains the oldest whisky I've had from the distillery, but it is perhaps the most unbalanced of those that I've tried. The nose is really lovely, but the bitterness on the palate makes it hard to love.

A very interesting multi-vintage experiment, but with some strange notes in the mix...
