    • Nose
      The 15-year-old Benromach immediately reveals his potential: Dry sherry notes, sweet fruits, baked apples, freshly cut oranges, honey and vanilla are among my first impressions. The longer the malt can breathe, the more changeable and complex it becomes: strong spices (nutmeg), freshly ground pepper, subtle tobacco notes, delicate hints of wax, milk chocolate, some oak and light campfire smoke follow. The alcohol (43%) is very well integrated. The harmonious, complex and changeable nose convinces me right away.
    • Taste
      Slightly oily and powerful, the Benromach occurs: Sweet-sour fruit notes are provided with an additional Pfeffrigkeit on the tongue tip. The sherry notes take on a more intense flavor: grapefruit, apples, overripe peaches, plums, red fruits, vanilla, honey and chocolate blend with spicy oak, nutmeg, nuts, leather, tobacco and light campfire smoke. Hints of mineral notes refine the multilayered overall impression. A slight dryness on the palate is already present.
    • Finish
      Medium to long, sweet and spicy and slightly smoky. Freshly ground pepper sets a final exclamation point at the tip of the tongue, before the fruit notes (slightly exotic undertone) with vanilla are again pleasantly present. Herbs, salty chocolate, leather, spicy oak notes and light camp fire smoke complete the finish. A slight dryness remains.

    Benromach 15 yo | 43% | 22 + 21 + 21 + 21 = 85pts
    N: Heresa-tar oil, dried fruit, dessert wine, sweet spices and tobacco, burnt rubber, gasoline, wood.
    T: Sour, smoked, tart wood, black pepper, dried fruit and apple jam, toasted bread.
    F: Diminishes slowly and pleasantly, tannic notes, sweet spices, smoke, wood tartness goes away.
    B: The fortress is quite enough, the concentration in it is more than enough, which can not but rejoice. I would easily confuse it with some not very strong barrel. Yummy.

    First impression: wow, this is really similar to Bowmore! The same soft, leathery peat smoke; the same mild but pronounced sherry influence. Really could've mistaken this for a Bowmore if I were having this blind. Sweet smoke and apricots on the nose, alongside herbal notes like camphor and myrrh. Tobacco leaves, chamomile and jasmine tea in the background. Definitely more on the herbal / spicy than the fruity side. The nose improves a little with one or two drops of water.

    Starts off massively leathery and rich in the mouth, the smoke keeps building up until the middle of the development, when a herbal bitterness (sounds worse than it is) takes over. There's a subdued sweetness, a slight citrus zing, and a welcome alcoholic lift throughout, all of which help to keep things fresh and appealing. Might've gotten too musty otherwise.

    The finish is okay, if a little unspectacular: at first, a short peppery kick and an echo from the spirit that reminds me of the smell of ozone. After that, the smoke returns to linger. Leather and soft smoke in the aftertaste. Very gentlemanly. Might've done with a higher ABV.

    I had heard that this was a pretty austere and contentious malt, but that's not my impression at all. Instead, I find this very reserved, mature, and elegant. It's supremely easy to drink, with plenty of soft notes, a kind of Talisker Light (or Craft Bowmore). Definitely worth buying a bottle (though perhaps not two).

      Very full of light and dark fruits. Berries, peach, kiwi and oranges. In addition, great spicy notes in combination with vanilla, delicate smoke, a few walnuts, cocoa and cooling mint. Very mature and complex in the nose. Blind I would have estimated the years a few years older.

      A great creamy mouthfeel. At the same time, the malt is rather dry, spicy and brings a nice dry Sherrynote. The bourbon barrels have left some nice notes after bright dried fruits, vanilla and caramel. Over time, prunes, pepper, honey and oak notes develop. Really great! At 43% Vol. I have dispensed with the dilution with water, although he could certainly deal with one - two drops.

      Medium to long. Creamy, sweet with honey, some bitter chocolate, subtle smoke and beautiful lingering sherry notes.

    Very far from the level of success in his little brother of 10 years .... a dram that is drunk but nothing folichon. (Blinded)

      Nose instead Sherry, very light with notes of coffee and sulfur.

      Attack with light spices, stings a little anyway. Some notes of chocolate mingle with the dance.
    • Finish
      A bit short, mainly on spices and cocoa.

    Excellent continuation of the new line of Benromach, a successful combination of sherry and bourbon barrels - all the derivatives are clearly distinguishable, do not interfere with each other, harmoniously merging into one, adding depth and complexity, all this with a commercial fortress and it is quite enough, excellent pitches, balance - successful release.

      Open, dry, processed wood, carpenter's workshop, salted grape leaves, a bit of vanilla, light peat hues, raisins, dried apricots, lemon peel, pre-foliage.
    • Taste
      Wood-raisin, lemon zest, fruity and confectionery notes, burnt crackers, leavard, spicy, slightly tart oak.
    • Finish
      Light, raisins, burnt crackers, dark beer, light metal sour, orange peel, cola, light peppercorn.

    Off the bat it’s quite sweet and full, some barley sugar followed by brine. Sweet and salty is always a favorite! Beeswax, a little new leather and moss in the forest. I find all sorts of jams as well: Apricot, peach and my beloved orange marmalade. The mouth feel is creamy and start with a peppery catch. Good wood and lots of it. Medium sweet a little drying, compliments to the oak. Malted barley and some candied oranges. This one gets smoother and more palatable the second time around. Once in a while I encounter a Whisky that seems to improve with every sip, I do think that’s an asset. Slight hint of smoke and a salty breeze from the ocean…How poetic! Finishes long and leaves your mouth wanting more. What I always enjoy with Benromach is the lingering aftertaste of a traditional dunnage warehouse. Quite spectacular, as expected. G&M are doing what I would like to see more often: Single malt with character produced the traditional way! Big thums-up from me.

    A Brief Comparison of 10yo (WID: 56765), 15yo (WID: 68235), and 10yo 100 ° Proof (WID: 107978)

    In the direct comparison between 10yo and 15yo, I first try hard to choose a favorite. The 10 is a little fresher, younger and the 15er muted and darker. The 15er probably has more sherry influence. Also, the smoke is rounder at 15, but somehow fuller. At first I found the 15er a bit more boring than the 10, because he was maybe too smooth in comparison. Now I think the 15er but better. He is rounder (not boring), but also voluminous.

    The 10yo 100 ° proof naturally has more power. Also he looks somehow dirtier than the other two. From the notes he goes rather in the direction of 15 with more power and dirty impact. Not so elegant, but heartier. You could probably have appreciated a bit older.

    A total of 3 really delicious malts. For me, the 10yo 100 ° is the winner. I already had a bottle of that and there will probably be another one.
    The 10yo 100 °, if you like it a bit gruff.
    The 15yo, if it should be a little quieter.
    But even the 10yo is a malt that you can buy for the money.

    Character: A complex, elegant and delicious sherry bottling. Relatively difficult to access. My 5cl sample is just enough for a first impression. Remarkably multifaceted and harmonious. Oak and sherry should be liked and high-grade sulfur allergic people should take a bit of care in view of the earthy, musty forest soil in this bottling.
    Rating: Compared to the 10y much dignified and complex. The 10's is good; but I would always like to pay the extra for the 15y. I like the smoke here much better, because it is less dominant. In addition, there is simply more breadth and depth here in terms of taste. At the 10y 100 ° Proof of the 15y comes for me, however, not over. Descending by preference, my order is baw. 10y 100 ° Proof, 15y, 10y. For the 15y I have a good 87 points today, ie after the second intensive try. Tendency 88.
    • Nose
      First, there are fruity sherry flavors, malt and a lot of grated orange peel in the nose. Not from the juvenile-brute but from the rather dignified kind. In any case, some smoke resonates. Like the last remnants of the glow of wood. A slightly dirty note is also included. A very slight sulfur influence leaves a slightly musty-earthy note. Trend forest soil. At the same time something slightly buttery also resonates: like a mixture of panacotta and semolina pudding. When you look closer, a hint of leather comes into its own and the longer I go away, the spicier it becomes: increasingly pepper and peppermint rise in the nose. Overall, a beautiful varied nose, which does not impose, but wants to be actively developed. Distant-elegant and at the same time excitingly appetizing.
    • Taste
      Very velvety and almost creamy, the drop hits the tip of the tongue. The fruity sherry is also immediately available. Including a lot of leather, peat smoke of the sort Holzglut and a beautiful oak. A pinch of pepper beats a comparatively short wave and then gets a more intense chocolate and cocoa taste my full attention. Together with the earthy-fruity taste of sherry and subtle almonds, this almost goes towards marzipan. Although some caramel resonates. On the fruit side, I perceive prunes, juicy raisins and ripe red berries. Again and again, leather and pepper shine through and in the transition to the finish, the oak room gives way. A beautiful woody taste and slightly bitter tree juice, which tends towards grapefruit, complete the flavor development. Everything very harmonious, delicious and with a pleasant intensity.
    • Finish
      The finish is medium to long and is carried by oak and sherry. The keynote is determined by the earthy-earthy forest floor. It is complemented by dark dried fruits, juicy red berries, dark chocolate, leather and tart oak aromas. Slowly and harmoniously extinguish the last remnants of the campfire.
