- Not very good. A bit flat. Not very complex. My notes are so very different from my fellow US members, maybe something was off in my glass. I don't know :-/
Tasted at day 10 of the Usquebaugh Society blind tasting competition 2015.
My guess was an Aberlour, 10yo at 57%.
Sweet, sherry, red fruit, chocolate. Not much else.
Ripe red fruit, dark chocolate, malty
Not that long, drying, red fruits, slightly bitter.
- Tasted blind in day 10 of the Usquebaugh Society Blind Tasting Comprtition 2015.
My guess was a BenRiach (I thought speyside rum finish, why not BenRiach), 16 yo at 53%
A little closed, mellow and light. Floral, dry leaves, with time some fruits come out. Lemons, peaches, very complex. Some odd finish here... Is it rum?
very thick and chewy, high strength. Initially a blast of flavour and spices, then calms down and becomes actually soothing with some earthiness and mushrooms, brown sugar, and light jamaican rum funk. Light fresh fruits, pears and peaches. Really opens up with time!
Medium, even short, drying and a little bitter. But it has a nice complexity and no burn.
- Blind tasting of a sample. I don't recognise the profile described in the official tasting notes at all.
Sweet, oily, grassy & spicy. A little caramel and eventually honey. Water turns it around completely; it breaks the oiliness and brings out lots of just-peeled orange, plus bourbon-mint, rosemary and vanilla cookie.
Pepper, caramel, grass, vanilla, orange and red apple. Pretty oily. With water honey, mint, basil and cookies.
Caramel, vanilla, pepper, honey, apple and a little peach. A tad of rubber in the end.

The aroma evoked almost immediate comments by all Panel members; choco tart with a frangipane filling, poached figs in red wine sauce, peanut butter ice cream, almond finger biscuits and a classic coke float- I think we all liked it. The taste did certainly not disappoint; Sailor Jerry spiced rum soaked raisins, marzipan, dark chocolate covered almonds with a cocoa dusting and fizzy cherry whips and red strawberry laces. With water on the nose cinnamon sugared almonds, vanilla cream-filled doughnuts with a glass of horchata and an all-encompassing flavor of freshly fried churros dipped in thick hoy chocolate.
