Whisky Reviews for Caperdonich 1994 WT

A delightful elegant dram. Fruity and sweet; a perfect ‘summer' whisky.
Water incredibly sweetens but also opens lovely spicy layers. A malt to
    savour.

    • Nose
Fruity start on the nose with apricots, tangerine, pears, subtle banana
and creamy vanilla. Lingering citric notes and lemon pith arrive,
intermingling with tender spiced oak and a whiff of earthy notes in the
      back.
    • Taste
Instant fruitiness with apricots, pears, pineapples and tangerine,
complemented by a slightly warming spiciness of oak and caramelised
ginger. Creamy with caramel and vanilla, accompanied by citric notes and
subtle lemon balm. Gentle and elegant!
    • Finish
Good length. Lingering orchard fruit, vanilla cream and a light, bright zestiness.

WITH WATER: Lots of stewed summer fruits on the nose with a few drops
of water. Tangy with more citric flavours coming through while the
subtle spiced oakiness almost disappears. Incredibly sweet on the palate
with orchard fruit and sticky custard. Then, surprisingly, hot spices
start to build with oak, ginger, nutmeg and black pepper. The finish is
long, warm, creamy sweet but slightly drying towards the end.

Speysider very classic, on acidulated apple and lemon.

  3. Speedo scored this whisky 85 points Member Senior

While he could not convince me when smelling and tasting, he shows his strength in the finish and in the end.
    • Nose
Starts mMn rather restrained. The alcohol is noticeable. Mainly there are sweet and sour fruit notes and vanilla.
    • Taste
A peppery onset, the 57% greet the tongue. It repeats the sweet components, vanilla and rudimentary caramel. The fruits are also found again, light citrus notes.
    • Finish
Medium long and surprisingly mild. Gently, he runs down his throat, without me being reminded again of the 57%. It leaves the taste of grapes, wine spritzer and finally even a hint of cranberries.

Nose: vanilla and banana must, lychee juice, what earthy mineral and fermenting aromas (like sparkling Federweisser)
Taste: pure something violent and tingling, earthy and fruity at the same time with fresh pepper and lemongrass. Caramel and vanilla, as well as peppery oak, then determine the medium-long finish. Water brings it more fruit and softens the tingle. The strong pepper stays and ensures the pleasant spice between the caramel and the fruits.
A delicious and good malt. As usual from Whisky Tales a good barrel selection but unfortunately not a big hit.

Description of the bottler: Nose: The "dwarf" starts very fruity with fresh vanilla. Then unfold banana, later apricot. and mandarin notes. After some time and fully developed, one discreetly recognizes something earthy. Taste / Departure: again fruity, followed by caramel and pineapple. This is joined by lemon balm. Intense and strong, definitely not a "dwarf".
