This whisky profits considerably from airing. The PX note takes a few steps back and more nuances appear, though the PX still hides the drams youth quite well.

An impressive single malt, considering that it is only 6 years old. A delicate sweetness paired with a warming and complex mix of spices: multi-layered and full-bodied. Luscious, smoky, maritime and wonderfully palatable. This dram doesn't need any water! Which distillery? No idea, as Dunyvaig Castle is located on the shore of Lagavulin Bay! https://www.whisky-connaisseur.de/2018/05/14/dunyvaig-6yo-2008-2015-the-maltman/
    • Nose
Peat smoke on the nose, nicely mixed with roasted ham, crisp barley and a touch of coal ash. Slightly medicinal character with bandages, followed by sweet sherry notes and delicate spices in the back.
    • Taste
Deliciously sweet start on the palate with barley sugar, cereals, vanilla and subtle sherry. Then quite warming with lots of spices - white pepper, cardamom, nutmeg, cloves and dry oak. BBQ notes with bonfire smoke. Qily with a touch of orange peel and salted caramel towards the finish.
    • Finish
The finish is long, warm, sweet and dry. Smoky, peaty with a touch of lemon and crisp cereals, mixed with coal ash on the tail.

With water: Significantly spicier on the nose when a few drops of water are added. Roasted bread mixed with peat and bonfire smoke. The warming spiciness is noticeably tamed while more sweetness and coal ash are coming through. The finish is long, slightly warm and very dry with oak, peat smoke, oyster-like flavours and hints of seaweed.

This malt holds for me more than the nose promises. Tasty stuff
    • Nose
Smoke and ham, herbs and citrus notes
    • Taste
Lots of smoke, citrus notes behind and some beeswax, tobacco
    • Finish
The finish is joined by an interesting sulphurous note. Long lasting and slightly astringent without losing the sweet notes

Nose: Round and balanced nose with sweet peat, wet coal, lead, honey and fresh, green flavors of lime. In addition there is malt, caramel, brown sugar, nut liqueur, orange juice and salty maritime hints.
Taste: Quite thick and salty-alcoholic. Much of sea salt, peat, smoky wood, ash, iodine and coal are in the foreground. The notes of orange peel, lime, rhubarb, caramel and honey run a bit subordinate.
Finish: Medium length - sweet, smoky and full of peat and coal. The wood is coming more and more into the foreground. Dry-sweet and with nut notes and wet ash.
Note: The salty-alcoholic tingling goes through the entire taste.
    87 points (nose: 87 / taste: 88 / finish: 87)

That should be a young Lagavulin. Reminds me a little of the CoI of JWWW.

  7. Kantenmechaniker scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

Is a little too dry and overall in the mouth too hard and one-dimensional.
    • Nose
Beautiful intensive smoked bacon smoke, actually salami, spicy, salty, cinnamon, also slightly sour, lemon peel, vanilla, behind the bacon is also a little sherry, chocolate, then sweetness
    • Taste
strong smoky, cinnamon, spicy, a lot of cinnamon, salt, behind it comes also dark fruits, with the second sip I also find sulfur, quite dry
    • Finish
the essence of smoke and cinnamon remains and at the very back of the throat is something else that I can not name could be fruity, the smoke stays eternal

Peat smoke mixed with sweets and spices. A round thing, which makes the age estimate much higher. Something medical cabinet, which had brought me to the beginning of the Laphroaigspur until then the Lagatypische comes through.
    Long spicy finish. Gorgeous!

Absolutely amazing. I never would have guessed this one was only six years old. What a beautiful whisky.
    • Nose
Immensly sweet smoke. Bonfire roasted ham. Honey glazed. Some salt. Wonderful nose. Lots of spices. Not hard to believe this is a Lagavulin.
    • Taste
Sugarry sweet. Then heavy peat smoke. But the sweetness is over domiannt at all time. Quite spicy oak already. Nutmeg, cloves and even some chili powder.
    • Finish
Long, smoky finish with the taste of chili chocolate lingering on.
