    (Blind tasting)
Sweet and fruity. Red fruits, red apple, berries, light pepper. But also has something dark.

Tickling something on the tongue but then puts quite creamy in the mouth. The sweetness of the fruit is there again. And a delicious nuttiness. Behind the back comes the peppery spiciness.

Leaves a pleasant mouthfeel with a rather long finish of covered fruit and bittersweet.

    Delicious. Tastes pretty good.

An interesting mix of the Arran malt profile and the deep notes of amarone wine. As with most finishes its a curiosity, and probably a result of cask scarcity and availability, but as such one of the more successful examples I have come across.
    • Nose
      85 85
Close to the Arran 14, fresh, malty, yeasty, flinty, airborne salt, some ripe red fruit in the background, something slightly sour and then the deep tannic notes of the wine mingles in along with some spices, maybe peppercorn and slight anise.
    • Taste
      87 87
Berries, prunes, sweet and sour, something citric, with a background of bitter chocolate and coffee. Quite full and rich on the palate, not nearly as drying as could be feared from wine tannins. Balance of sweetness with the deeper notes is fine.
    • Finish
      86 86
Quite long, on chocolate and sweet wine. Now the drying of the wine appears, but it fits the profile quite well.

For an inexpensive finished whisky, this one's actually quite nice, and they certainly made a good choice bottling it at 50 %, but like many wine finishes, it's better as an occasional rather than a daily dram.

  6. Totoro scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

Brash and energetic, a triad of 1) punchy spirit, 2) sweet and fruity aromas and 3) tart and spiky oak.
The alcohol is palpable, but it fits thee style. You do get the red wine influence on the nose as well as the palate: redcurrant gummies and an appealing dryness that works well with the bitter citrus and quinine notes that are the hallmarks of Arran. Beneath all this lingers creamy yoghurt and wafts of sweet, fragrant vanilla. Good-quality casks, I‘d say, which is not always the case with wine-cask finished whiskies.

Normally I consider Arran a summer whisky, but this expression is more of an autumnal affair, with its stormy, spirity core and warming, woody finish. Not overly complex, but incredibly well executed. A crafty concoction!

    Colour: amber with red notes.
Nose: sweet, muffins, berries, sweet fruits, black currant, spices, oak and red apples.
Mouth: sweet, sweet fruits, pepper, oak, chocolate, dust and berries.
Finish: long, spices, dust, sweet fruits, oak, berries and red apples.
This whisky is very good balanced, sweet and tasty with light wine notes.

I have to run again. Red fruits, some chocolate and neat pepper, not heavy and massive, rather tender and young.
    • Nose
Red fruits (cherries, strawberries), Black Forest cake, crunchy red apple, the alcohol cools the nose, very well integrated, delicate oak, chocolate
    • Taste
Nice sweetness, again the apple, oak, pepper, chocolate, cherry gum, a bit malty
    • Finish
Medium (5/10), with some oak and a hint of apricot

    BOL tasting # 20, sample D

Blind tasting focused on wine finishes.
    • Nose
      88 88
Sweet, raisins, roasted (dark) sugar, rum-like, red fruit but more like cherries, tropical influences (mango?), Hint silage.
    • Taste
      80 80
A lot of sweetness, sticky, plenty of cinnamon, red fruit, pepper.
    • Finish
      80 80
Reasonably sharp sour finish, not the best to be honest, also adds some sweet fruit notes with some spiciness (lots of cinnamon) and again the rum-like roasted sugar.

  10. Calmar scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

An interesting mole, the aroma is well-cut, deep enough and diverse; in the taste of raisin abundance, spices, confectionery tones - and all this is juicy and dense, cool, the finish gently comes to naught on the same raisin background, in my opinion it turned out fine
    • Nose
Restrained, dry, first nose - a juicy grain moonshine; fresh wood, varnish, solvent, plastic, aerosol paint for leather, leather, bread, mineral notes, raw stones, cold oat porridge, raisins, prickly sulfuric-metallic tones, light beer.
    • Taste
Saturated, dense, raisins, spicy oak, dried fruits, again raisins of different kinds, ginger candied fruits, furniture varnish, Koch-i-Nor pencils, sweet confectionery notes, jam, shortbread cookies,
    • Finish
Soft, warming, raisins with light sourness, oak, kvass notes, malt, light tartness of young bark.
