- Bought for 305GBP at the Gordon & Macphail shop, Elgin. February 2018. This is very reminiscent of some 60's Balblair I've tasted from G&M at 40% but perhaps even better. This has that older profile despite being from 1980. Nothing modern or too clean about this baby! On the nose: A bowl of waxy coated lemons, olive oil, olives, fresh pineapple fruit. In the Mouth: Waxy, oily, tropical and citrus fruits. Rhat Balblair rancio, yeasty funk reminding me of great Belgian lambic beers like a 3f Golden Blend or a great Cantillon. Farmyard vibes, hay and dirt a la Clynelish/Brora. Lots of different tea notes and some old school meatiness. In the end some ripe bananas and very pleasant vanilla bean come through. This is a mighty dram, the 43% feels much more powerful but there islots of balance.
