Whisky Reviews for Bowmore 1999 AC

He gets smarter with every sip ... A well-balanced whisky, which still has its own profile, quite recognizable. In my view, something undervalued here.
    • Nose
The smoke takes some time, it starts with violet / caramel sweets. Slowly develops then a delicate smoke flavor, cold, ashy and very slightly phenolic, to dark caramel, some iodine and sea air, to it again and again approaches of raspberries and eucalyptus. It is heated smokier and the smoke itself goes in the direction of house fire and smoked bacon, plus some disinfectant. Overall warmed up a lot more coherent, more and darker caramel, good in balance.
    • Taste
Catches soft and round, dark honey, not too sweet, with plenty of mineral notes and a hint of acidity as well as beautiful smoked bacon. Then he starts, and that's pretty powerful.
    • Finish
The finish is relatively short and rather a fading over the bacon with some wood, liquorice. However, he still warms up significantly.

I'm at Rottendon. An extremely good Bowmore me recognition. That's why he gets one more point from me. I tried it at the fair in Mülheim, on a whim. Rarely has a dram picked me up like this. The nose and the taste are so unusual and yet as familiar as rare. I bought two bottles and tasted one directly with the boys in the evening. Really nice malt, even if he was clearly too expensive at the fair, as it turned out :-( J.

Tasted as part of a tasting. Deser drops was actually the highlight of the evening. An extreme nose full of sweet and spicy smoked ham over a campfire.

A fruity Bowmore. The sherry barrel makes it really cute, but quite pleasant. After red wine enjoyment you do not notice the sweetness. Little smoke. Remarkably provided with plastic corks.

    Single Whiskybase sample.
    • Nose
Sweet smoke - peat and leaves, green branches. Smoked cheese. Smoked fish. Ozone, greenhouse. Some sherry notes come through later including a hint of sulfur
    • Taste
Sweet. Big and bold. Smoked fish. Burnt elements - crispy bacon. Cured meat. Salt. Ash.
    • Finish
      Long, bonfire smoke.

Original Tasting Notes: Aroma: Fresh sea breeze, Mediterranean, iodine, salt, fresh pebble beach, damp metal, then later smoke, cold campfire. Taste: Powerful and intense, initially dry smoke, a mixture of smokehouse and medium-strength cigar, with fruity sweetness of heart cherries and old, dry sherry, then lightly burnt toffee. In the finish surprisingly fine and soft, slightly dry, still cigar smoke and pleasant saltiness.
