Too lazy to give a proper note review on this. Sherry again. Tongue has gone numb honestly. My English friend knows how much I dislike sherry and so this is what I get. It's a Ben Nevis with sherry everywhere, goodness sake, how monotonous is this. Speaking of monotonous, this reminds me of a certain Glen Moray bottle and a Laphroaig that everyone raves so much about, tears to the eyes literally and the wallet. MONO-tonous, straight laced and one way. Leather, gooseberry, prunes, what else. Pretty much it.

Classic Ben Nevis. What more do you want?

Well balanced although the years does not show much on the oak.

What a hammer painter, very different from what I know so far, dominant notes for me wood and Paxarette ?? (was this used here you could call the palate and finish "funny"
    • Nose
very old worn leather !!!, wild berry, plums, moist wood chips, slightly sweet, some sherry and raisins later: wine and frankincense
    • Taste
soft, silky and oily on the palate again clearly leather !!!!, some espresso, tender raisins, oak, spicy, bitterness and that gets stronger and something that I call old damp cardboard
    • Finish
seeeeehr long !!!!, clearly oak is stronger, bitter, astringent !!

I found it rather unbalanced, very concentrated and demanding. So, great fun but not your everyday dram to enjoy.
    • Nose
There is a odd sourness at first. Not fruity like grapes or lemon, more like wax with cherries. Sawdust and antik furniture. Dried leaves and herbal. Also tobacco and sigars. Mon Cheri, the chocolate with cherrie flavour in it.
    • Taste
Cold tea with the bag still in after an hour, yeah really that brownish tea. Pure and rather bitter cacao, again lots of wood and sawdust. Cherries both fresh and from a jar. Cold espresso.
    • Finish
Dry red grapes with wood. Sultanas and herbs. I found nettle as a herb or that kind of tea.

This is an interesting old Ben Nevis.  High marks for complexity, though I didn't find all the flavors very pleasant.

The nose is classic Ben Nevis with the funky sourness that we all know, and some of us love.  It's on the palate that things get a little off track in my opinion.  Again the classic Ben Nevis profile is there, but it is accompanied by some soapy wet cardboard flavors with I don't care for.

I would definitely recommend that Ben Nevis fans find a sample if they can, but try it before spending this much on a full bottle.
