Whisky Reviews for Arran 1999

3 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 87.17 points

  1. Calmar scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

A well-knit, bright whisky with a classic woody-grain profile, a wide range of derivatives, an excellent balance, generally open and friendly to the taster, the only drawbacks are some harshness in the taste.
    • Nose
Open, dry, woody-grain notes, fried vegetables, deep-frying oil, mineral shades, wool, wax, lemon zest.
    • Taste
Dense, rich, lemon-mineral notes, peppery wave, spicy wood, ginger, sweet creamy-confectionery shades, popcorn, buttery, there are more thorny mineral motifs and at the same time sweet tropical fruits in the development.
    • Finish
Spicy, refreshing, woody-mineral, bright citrus notes, vanilla, sweet creamy tones, wax, leather goods, ginger, tropical fruits.

A very clean well made Arran on good bournon casks. Unfortunately, the cask influence is predominant, leaving little room for the spirit to show its profile. In general it stays quite clean and never really goes wild.

nose: fresh fruits, very sweet, quite some vanilla, would almost call it red-bull-ishytaste: once again much fresh fruit, but never really manages to surprise me.finish, quite pleasant, but again no surprises here.in total: a good whiskybut i get the feeling it wants to be a bit like the best kid in the class, some naughtyness would suit it well.

Update; i had this one for a re-evaluation in september 2017, where it had more time to breath. IT did it quite well, it lost that over te top redbull nose, and gained a nice, more layered body and a bit of white pepper spiciness.
