- I was kindly given this sample by Tom Mills from Malt of the Earth when I bumped into him in Cadenhead's London shop last October. I have been meaning to give it proper attention since then but better late than never! Decent drinking dram despite its youthfulness. I would like more aggression than 46% could deliver as I like my younger whiskies to be a bit more feisty!
Slightly sour note at first, like over-ripe apples but that soon goes to leave a sweeter more pleasant nose with fresh mown grass, green apples and floral notes with hints of vanilla. After some time very light fresh oak presents itself. Very typical Strathisla from a Bourbon cask.
Medium bodied mouthfeel with a nice oily component to it. The taste is still slightly sour green apples with hints of acetone but with some malty earthiness and spices to it. With time and very little water ginger spices become more prominent which balances out this dram.
The finish is short but a little bit sweeter than the taste would suggest although the sour notes are still there. Hints of melon & lemons.
