A bit oily (oilier than WB ID 65822). Oranges, almond, very faint vanilla, white pepper, with grapefruit giving it a soury edge.
Creamy mouthfeel. Nutty (almonds), some menthol, honied vanilla, green apples, a wee bit sour (grapefruit peel). Prickly at the sides and tip of the tongue.
Green apples coming more to the fore, lingering menthol, white pepper, some grassy tones.
Not as accessible as WB ID 65822; a bit more astringent, less spicy and sweet. 84 points at first, but 85 when tasting back after a while (gaining a point in the palate). Tasted head to head on 08/04/2017 in a Mortlach 1997 SV "sister casks" tasting: 7170+7171 (WB ID 65822), 7172+7173 (WB ID 66877), 7179+7180 (WB ID 71944) and 7168+7169 (WB ID 78057). This one came out as the #3. Thanks KayMeertens, Daan Tje and WhiskyOss for swapping samples with me!
