[March, 2001]  I had this dram during an Islay charity tasting at Rheinhotel Dreesen.

In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored this 87,5.  Unfortunately no detailed notes were taken.  By the way, the different batches of this edition vary significantly in quality.  Some are extraordinary good (very, very fruity) and others are just good.  The one at this tasting was of the latter.

Unfortunately I found no mark at the bottles to differentiate between the different batches, so it is a lottery if you own an excellent or "just" a good one (you have to open it to find out)...

Very fruity Bowmore, exactly what we want.
    • Nose
Warm and fruity, papaya and tropical fruits, some grasses, a touch of farmy notes, warm peat and ink, very salty and meaty.
    • Taste
Very farmy and fruity, sour pineapple, chocolates and fresh herbs. Some sweet melons, then mints, mints and more mints. Very fresh and a touch of bitterness.
    • Finish
      Short-medium, camphor, some chocolate spices.

    89/100
    • Nose
farmy peat, old school/no nonsense smokiness. some mint, some very subtle fruits very distant in the background. Cooked vegetables. Almost a bit reminiscent of pot roast.A bit cardboardy. OBE? Water helps the old fashioned peat fire come through and the cardboard moves back. Becomes more complex.
    • Taste
hits nicely peaty at first, stays very nice in form and mouthfeel. Not incredibly complex though. Stays true to the nose.Water brings out more complexity on the palate.
    • Finish
Finish – quite impressive for a “standard” 12. Big. Smoked maple syrup notes.
