On the nose: organic solvent, some pickled vegetable, subtle chocolate notes, balsamico vinager.

On the palate: starts out mellow but grows in intensity after a few seconds. Warm, bright and a bit hot. Licorice comes forward, sweet-bitter with the balsamico vinager playing in the background. Would not have guessed 30 years of maturation on this one. It feels much younger.

Finish: Chocolate, bitter orange, black pepper. Short but still substantial.

    Rating interval 81-85.

I am not sure about this one? Not bad at all, I had just expected more I guess. Thanks to Patrik Berkevall for the sample.

The strange sour note is a little disturbing in what would be a great dram otherwise.
    • Nose
There is a pungent chemical note (no sulphur) that luckily vanishes after time. It holds the middle between bourbon-driven vanilla, and sherry influence. There is acetone, vanilla (as already stated), orange zest, milk chocolate, and furniture polish.
    • Taste
This gets rather woody, sherried and spiced!  There is wet wood, juniper, clove, cinnamon alongside the grain. Then, quite some orange (the zest and the fruit), leather, and chocolate. Still, I detect a strange sour note.
    • Finish
Long, moderately bitter on wood and spices, together with predominantly red fruit and orange.

I think this is a very nice one! Here I can really enjoy, perhaps not a very typical grain, seems to have some sherry barrel influences (although that is not indicated anywhere).
    • Nose
Initially some glue, then: Cinnamon, apple, raisins, and I have to think of Pledge (polish for furniture).
further cohocolade, alcohol is nice but not too intense.
    • Taste
Full, fat, creamy! Leathery, cinnamon again, somewhat bitter, some tobacco, apple syrup. Gives a warm feeling.
    • Finish
Long. Wood influences, light peppers now, and fruity.

Nose: First some glue and green apple. After a while it gives the apples, wood, fudge, vanilla, shortbread, but there is also sulfur coming up. And sulfur is for Germans.

Taste: Spicy of alcohol, chocolate, some sherry, caramel and cream. Reminds of apple pie. But after an hour that sulfur is back in ......

Body: Nothing wrong with that! Full and fat

Finish: medium-long. Chocolate, wholemeal cookies, sherry, wood and mint.

Comment: 85 points. You should not let this 'come into its own' with time, because then it becomes too sulphurous.

At the risk of sounding like Jim Murray: what's up with that damn sulphur?! It's not like it is undrinkable, far from it, but is an undesirable element for me.
    • Nose
I waited well over an hour after I poured it into my glass. A layer of menthol and aniseed with some obvious sherry cask influence. Milk chocolates and bitter oranges. Rum soaked raisins. And some sulphur too.
    • Taste
Orange liqueur again, and again a touch of sulphur, goddammit. It doesn't ruin the whisky per se, but I don't like it. Also some cherries and chocolate milk, and quite spicy with black pepper and cinnamon.
    • Finish
Medium to long, with oranges and chocolate.

What a full creamy whiskey, an explosion of taste. My first single grain whiskey and immediately 1 of caliber.
    • Nose
Full and complex smell. Furniture was, oil, pepper, apple, raisins, cinnamon and chocolate. Further glue, leather but also wet newspapers or a damp cellar.
    • Taste
Creamy, full fat taste. Bitter, wood, chocolate, leather, cinnamon, grapes. Espresso, tabac, honey, apple syrup, dried fruit and some sulfur. Coriander, tea.
    • Finish
Dry, long and wood tannins. Now more fruit, but especially dry fruit, apricots and cooking pears.
