Whisky Reviews for Caol Ila 2005 ANHA

- Sweet and tasty! Smoke, sweetness, sharpness and fruit, everything is there. After this sample, I regret that I did not buy a bottle at the time. Very tasty, I like it!
The first impression is relatively neutral. Then it quickly makes an intense smoke smell noticeable. Mineral smoke and a hint of peat mingle with sweet fruit. Some banana, pear and fine-bitter apple penetrate through the cold smoke.
Malty sweetness dominates the first impression before sweet smoke is created. Sweet vanilla and overripe fruits are in perfect harmony with the smoke. A pleasant sharpness and an intense aroma of smoked bacon arises. Very pleasant to drink, so I do without the addition of water. Very tasty!
The finish starts with black, hot pepper. Fruity notes play with the smoke, again this smoked bacon! At the very end of the departure surprisingly creates a fine nut flavor.
- Conclusion: 86/100 points - "mediocre dram" Overall, a whisky that promises more in the nose than it can hold on the palate. The nose does not benefit from some water, palate and finish. Too bad, the nose promised> 90 points. However, for ~ 70 € a fair price for Caol Ila in CS.

cold smoke from the fireplace, some honey, melon .. Honeydew melon in Parma ham. Hardly any alcohol. Much sweeter and fruity with water. Golden Delicious apple and young manderine peel. Possibly. some peach in the background.
Vanilla sweetness, ripe fruit. Banana with partly brown skin. We quickly get peppery and spicy. Here comes the ashes from the fireplace. With water a little more vanilla and caramel, but also more pepper.
Medium long finish. Pretty spicy, very warm. Hardly sweet.
Smoke (cold camp fire smoke), a light subtle sweetness, slightly earthy, mineral, some solvents. Banana (good Hefeweizen), peach, mandarin.
You do not notice the alcohol as much as you might think at 54%.
Sweet, spicy smoke. Toffee, caramel, honey. Burnt marinated meat (bulleted crust from Pulled Pork). Some pineapple, but very discreet and in the background.
The smoky wort remains and warms the entire esophagus down, the sweetness disappears. The salivation begins and fills the whole mouth again with the spicy smoke. The finish is medium long.
- Caol Ila 2005-2015, 10 years, 54.4% Anam na h-Alba
Caol Ila 2005-2015, 10 years, 54.4%
Bottler: Anam na h-Alba
Extension: Bourbon barrel
Region: Islay, Scotland
Nose: Peat smoke in vanilla sweetness, air-dried ham, coal oven and caramel. The smoke is already engaging, in addition to the sweetness of the barrel mixes. There is a bit of solvent in the background, which does not bother us at all. Over time, fruit fights through the smoke, including peaches and apples, maybe even some banana.
Palate: Strong, but also sweet. Very much caramel and toffee, with vanilla and honey. The peat smoke reminds a bit of barbecue marinade, ham and a trace of tar. The palate is rounded off by colorful pepper, oak and quite distant gunpowder.
Finish: Very long and intense, warming. Spicy with ash and wood flavors, light vanilla sweetness and at the end quite a touch of sulfur.
Conclusion: Caol Ila in cask strength and in the quality that I expected.
86/100 points (tasted 2015, approx. 80 €)
