A more than fine Irishman. Well matured and great depth in terms of taste. Many SMs from Scotland cannot match this.
    • Nose
      88 88
Very powerful nose. Lots of fruit, a bit of a canned tropical fruit mixture. Some ripe mangos and that kind of scent. I also detect some red fruit in the background. With some water I notice some more herbs such as five spice and coriander.
    • Taste
      88 88
Sturdy, come in nice. Very full fruit flavors, again that canned fruit, peach and some papaya. Furthermore, beautiful oily. Fortunately, greasy food remains intact with water. A bit more sweetness comes to the fore and the tastes become more a 'traditional' Irishman.
    • Finish
      87 87
Medium length. Here again tropical fruit, over time some more wood comes up. A little bit of tannins in the background. Not much has actually changed with water.

    Nose: Just alcohol
    Taste: Sweets, Washing up liquid
    Finish: Sour
Very sweet and at the same time sour. Not to my liking.

Quite a nice bottling but the nose gives me a feel of something which has spent a little bit too much time in a fruit basket. Tasted this side by side with the Rolf Kaspar 2001 Irish whiskey (cask 3379), which I like a little more because of the fresher experience it provides.
    • Nose
      85 85
Overly ripe tropical fruits, almost to the point of fermentation: mango, peach, papaya and apricot. Some toffee, quite nutty, undefined (eastern?) spices, a bit salty, also a little moldy in the background with a hint of old bookshelves.
    • Taste
      86 86
A bit sharp on alcohol, but a little water tunes it down to acceptable levels. Oily, then thick layers of fruitiness, mostly dried apricots and overly ripe peaches, some faint vanilla. Eventually, it still develops into something pretty peppery.
    • Finish
      86 86
Medium length: fruity with again the ripe apricots and peaches, some liquorice and nutmeg, all fading away into an old moldy and nutty oak wood note.

A tropical powerhouse. Mango. Pineapple. Passionfruit and kumquats. A bit of oil and full bodied too. Not a "light" dram compared to most Irish. Loving it.

If you're looking for a fruity whiskey with a kick, than this is it. It's not overly complex, but that doesn't really matter in this case.
    • Nose
Lots of tropical fruit. Mangoes, apricots and plenty of ripe banana. It almost smells like candy, very sweet and sugary, with lots of vanilla too.
    • Taste
The arrival has a kick to it, but mellows quickly. Immediately the fruit appears, all of the tropical kind, but mostly banana and apricots. Almost like a fruit custard.
    • Finish
Long and fruity with a touch of oak.

  12. Shane_IL scored this whisky 80 points Expert Senior

A good deal livelier than most Irish whiskies.
    • Nose
Copper coins. Apples. Some woody nut notes. Candied fruits. Light wood. Bitter resin.
    • Taste
Sticky. Maple syrup. Rich wood. Banana. Overripe apricots. Custard. Woodspice.
    • Finish
Long. Lively woodspice. Stewed fruits. Dry, bitter wood.
