Given the 93 points from Ralfy, my expectations monstrously surpassed reality. Maybe I was just lucky with a poorly stored bottle, it's hard to say, but after opening it smelled and tasted terrible. I had to fly it back and forth a few times and let it rest for a few weeks. Then it was better. Due to the 43% strength, it can withstand the addition of a surprisingly large amount of water. And then it tastes much better.

At the same time, I have open Johnnie Walker Black Label's blend from about the same time, ie the 80's, and I must say that I like it significantly more than Teacher's 12yo.
    • Nose
Very quiet to bland. Dusty hayloft, dried lemon zest, tea cakes and overripe, slightly rotten apple.

After adding water: apple, perfume, cane sugar and cinnamon.
    • Taste
Sour-sweet with a slight hint of smoke and a slight bitterness. Slightly pungent. Ginger, honey, bitter caramel, flour (beaten) apple, tanned half of lemon juice and sour milk.

After adding water: dark chocolate, cocoa (with milk), orange and plum.
    • Finish
Astringent and slightly woody. Herbal bitterness and special acidity. Chamomile, lime juice, grapefruit, grape tassel, apple juice and mint.

After adding water: unripe kiwifruit including peel, light waxyness, dried pear, blade of grass, citrus peel and cinnamon.

Sweet and fruity, set. Pineapple, fruit compote, canned peaches, vanilla pudding and cake, rum, some musty wood, spicy, dusty cardboard, spicy notes. Gets better and better over time.
    • Taste
      86 86
First sweet, then rough. Sweet-sour and woody-bitter, astringent. Citrus, sour cherry, cold ash, oak, some musty wood, baked cocoa, rum raisins, brittle. Not sweet anymore but quite complex. Unfortunately, it feels a bit thin in the mouth.
    • Finish
      83 83
Medium length, bitter and spicy, lemony-tart, dark chocolate.

    • Nose
Pear, reminds me a bit of a canned fruit mix, a bit of peach, beeswax candle, orange, minimal wood
    • Taste
Apricot, honey, physalis, orange, much spicier than expected, wood

light smoke, set sherry notes, subliminal heavy fruity sweetness. Maybe even a dark vanilla.
    • Taste
      82 82
Creamy, almond butter, spiciness steps in and then brings sweetness with it. red fruity.
    • Finish
      78 78
Decreases significantly. Green wood, bitter tart.

Felt more malt than grain. You can still guess the smoke he used to have. And a portion of sherry cask. Ashy cabbage, sweet citrus - canned tangerine, maybe even peach? Very tasty, just a little light-breasted.
    • Taste
      84 84
Can be chewed, good texture. Sweet-sour, malty, then progressively more smoke.
    • Finish
      83 83
Spicy, even slightly hot, still tart with herbaceous smoke trail and slightly sticky OBF bitterness (but in moderation).

rich aroma, good taste and only the aftertaste was a little upsetting due to the grain, but overall it is a very good and tasty blend.

    Pre-1989 old bottle.

Appearance: Medium amber-red-gold. Very oily and viscous.

Nose: Old wet oak barrels, basement, cherry, sherry, rather intense raisins, vanilla, honey. Old, aged, big sherry. Cinnamon spice.

Palate: Woody old barrel, raisins, cherries, cinnamon, pepper. Not so sweet, but huge, deep, dried fruits and tons of sherry. Cherry vanilla and toffee. Lots of barrel.

Finish: Cinnamon and black pepper, dried cherries, raisins, heat. Long lasting, well integrated.

With Water: Mellows everything, not as old seeming, lots of dried fruit. Not worth it really. So well integrated and mellow already.

Overall: Maybe a bit oxidized, as the nose completely reminds me of my grandpa’s wine cellar, old musty barrels. But the flavor is huge dried cherries and raisins. Quite fabulous and in great condition. I am looking for more of this!

Drawn to this for my love of Ardmore, hope I’m not disappointed ?
Nose Beautiful dry sherry, this is really great, no dissapoinment Just heightened expectation, could be something a lot older
Arrival dry an sweet but a bit thin
Development again dry slightly sweet but thin
Finish dry stationary/envelope glue, with a bit of e150 added yand a little sweetness
Good in some parts but not what I was hoping for, a little disapointing

[January, 2018]  Old blends can be truly great and this one was recommended to me - so I am very curious.

A perfect example of a delicious and well-crafted old blend that combines the best of different distillery and maturation profiles.  Very quaffable and recommended to anybody who wants to explore the "old style" of Scotch without spending tons of bucks on old collectible single malt bottlings...
    • Nose
      90 90
The nose immediately offers this adorable old bottle flavour (OBF) besides lots of different fruits, spring flowers, herbs and spicy woods. A really nice composition and I could swear that some casks in this batch were much older than just 12 years (what was quite usual in earlier times when the warehouses were full of old stuff). This is a very complex and balanced nose that is recommended to everybody who wants to train his/her olfactory cells. I like it!
    • Taste
      88 88
The taste is sweet on fruity and honey flavours with stronger spicy notes than the nose. It is chewable and balanced but not as complex as is the nose. Water is not needed unless you prefer a more herbal profile (water increases these flavours in particular).
    • Finish
      87 87
The dram arrives warming and coating on the palate with a slight peppery feeling that is not unpleasant. The finish is of medium length and adds more spicy-herbal impressions. A tiny cardboardy feeling from older woods at the very end is the only (minor) flaw that I can find in this dram.

Rarely I had an old blend so fresh. Enthusiasm 4/5 Whiskey n ° 1433
    • Nose
Old cellar (but it disappears), fresh fruit and vanilla. Caramel. Later, woody loosely smoked. Beautiful vivacity for this "old fashioned"
    • Taste
We find the old cellar side, but there is a lot of fluidity to the touch, and the aromas are expressed in a very dynamic way!
    • Finish
      Fresh on the pear!

  14. wisekyofcourse scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

On the nose, dust, yellow and green fruits (lemon, apple), then a significant carbon return
    • Nose
very creamy, pastry, and a grassy freshness a little minty.
    • Finish
can be Glendronach and Ardmore in, anyway, a good blend, with lots of dust, mold, some exotic fruit that will delight the taste buds.

  15. St. Pauli scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

A true gem! Especially the nose and taste were absolutely stunning.
    • Nose
A stunning old nose. I detect other notes as my predecessors: no caramel, but a beautiful fruity and waxy nose. Pineapple, melon, lemon, fruit cake, wax and polish, creamy vanilla custard, a hint of leather.
    • Taste
Silky, creamy and very seductive. The fruity side is even more prominent, with ample melon and sweet grapefruit. There is also a layer of dried fruit. Further, cake, grass, mint, and pepper.
    • Finish
Gets spicy and a bit drying, but that's OK. The fruity part is gone, and pepper, cinnamon, ginger and clove take over. Next to this, there is vanilla and grass.

This is good stuff and a lovely mouth feel, far too easy to drink but a 12 year quality blend for sure.

Great buy by BXpress and after finishing this sample  my score goes up to 87P.
    • Nose
Fudge, honey, hint of lemon & orange zest, caramel waffles, warm jam sponge cake
    • Taste
Thick & creamy with vanilla custard, toffee, mango, and there is some grapefruit coming through.

Gets more syrupy as you go on.
    • Finish
Pleasantly sweet but a little short

Ralphy Mitchell scored a 1970`s bottle of this (I believe a little earlier than this one) at a whopping 93 points.

That was his highest score for a blend about 18 months ago.

  19. BXpress scored this whisky 90 points Expert Senior

Straight 90. Points would have been higher if the taste had  a little more power.

A piece of history for 38 Euros (lol). Watch out for this one at auction.
    • Nose
Immediately old school. Caramel, earth. Old shabby furniture. Slightly farmy with hay. Amazing note of Diesel/Propane (can't decide) which reminds me of a certain Glen Grant '65. Vanilla. Soft and harmonic. The blendish character is noticeable and works great. Leather, spices, pepper. Slightly medicinal too. I could write a novel.
    • Taste
Same thing only with more caramel, more citrus. Still spicy, earthy, leathery. Again old furniture. Slightly thin though. The profile however remains great. Butter, coal, vanilla, wool. Some Toffe and mild honey, a little herbal.
    • Finish
Very long and spicy, with some vanilla. Slightly herbal after taste.
