This one really grew on me as I sipped, especially once I added the water. There’s a lovely mix of rich creaminess with fragrant citrus and sweet herbs. At the end of the day, I still firmly prefer malts to grains, but this is easily the best grain whisky I’ve tried. Maybe there’s still hope.
    • Nose
Smells like a grain whisky, but with a rich floral and creamy character. Strong clover honey, beeswax, banana, and green apple. Buttercream, butter tarts, and toasted sugar. Beeswaxed pastries… cannelés de Bordeaux, right? Wait a minute, yellow curry! – coconut milk, lemongrass, curry leaf, turmeric, and lime. A little bit of a gluey note.
With a dribble of water added there’s more syrupy fruit – gooseberry and elderflower.
    • Taste
Soft texture. Quite delicate on the arrival. Beeswax, vanilla, angel food cake. On the development there’s a charred-sugar and heavy-oak bitterness. Fragrant lemon verbena and lemongrass. Fresh linens.
The water completely kills the bitterness. In its place are madeleines, as well as more coconut milk and curry leaf.
    • Finish
Medium-length and buttery-sweet. Shea butter and coconut milk. More lemongrass, as well as a citrusy pomelo/lime note.

    C: gold

N: a gourmet blended grain (vanilla, caramel) and fruit (coconut, a little melon), a tart side with caramelized pears, sweet brioche / waffle type. For once, I find that we feel the blended grain aspect quite well. Some spices. There is indeed this "bright" side noted by many, I find in any case that it reminds of brioche desserts, bakery smells ...

B: very tasty: vanilla, creamy, a side of custard. Then the barrel expresses itself and we arrive on a rather bitter finish with spices (pepper, ginger), which counterbalances this brioche side.

F: rather long, rather bitter (is it due to the sample?)

A gourmet whiskey that reminds me of a Longmorn from Wemyss with an evocative name ("at the waffle merchant")

    Right name. It is hedonism.

Quite complex and deep nose on honey, polish.

Mouth is perfectly balanced and it changes a lot with time in the glass.

    it's fresh too.

Very well made; Loved this dram.

Not my style, but the taste is good.
    • Nose
"Blended" nose with liquorice , caramel, vanilla, cream and young/edgy background.
    • Taste
Smooth, creamy vanilla with cognac like spice.
    • Finish
      Bitter, salty.

  8. Calmar scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Not bad for grain whiskey, the aroma even tries to show depth and some complexity, the taste / finish is very rich and pleasant, tidy, but do not expect a miracle - grain is grain, although very qualitatively made, therefore, the question arises about the price that sufficiently large.
    • Nose
Open, dry, grain, freshly birch birch, resin, coniferous wood dust, hot metal shavings in oil, stone dust.
    • Taste
Thick, sweet-resin, pine needles, pine nuts in resin.
    • Finish
Dense, warming, sweet caramel, oak, young shoots of pine, burnt caramel.

Tasted at Malt Mongers Israel whisky club monthly meetup.Very nice whisky, lots of signs of quality corn spirit here. But for the price asked one could better fill that craving with a quality bourbon with plenty change to spare.
    • Nose
Light wood. Vanilla. Caramel. Almost a bourbon. Banana. Coconut. Sandalwood
    • Taste
Vanilla. Wood. Wood. Banana pudding. Nutmeg. Orange peel.
    • Finish
      Long. Bitter, dry wood. Vanilla.

    Very nice

But what is all the fuss about? To Be honest I find it a tad boring. I only had a 3cl sample. So perhaps that isn't enough to discover all the subtle flavours.
I'm glad that I tasted it, but a bottle should at least be 40-50€ cheaper for me to concider to buy one.

n:quite floral plus some tropical fruits
m:stunning fruitiness with coconuts at first..it gets though a bit suggary ..maybe it's the fructose from all these fruits....
f:a bit dry like old book pages

N: Despite a huge ethanol boom the nose also provides light and desirable flavours mainly consisting of oily/oaky vanillas.
T: Sour-bitter-sweet with a spirit-oak interplay that culminates in a lot of unease and juggling. After the initial sweet arrival, its the oak that loses out to the spirit
    F: Vanilla spirit
C: Another case of nice but not great, i much prefer the current Hedonism at less than half the price [Mar ’15].
Thanks to Greg from Compass Box for a sneak preview of this vatted grain [aged at approximately 20-32 years], a day before its release at Whiskylive 2015 [20th Mar ’15].

    Scores a C

    Serge:
Hedonism ‘Quindecimus’ (46%, Compass Box, blended grain, 5,689 bottles, 2015)
The Scots are using much Roman these days, only Russell Crowe’s missing
;-). Now maybe is that better than ‘Norse’ names straight from an IKEA
catalogue… What’s more, Compass Box are 15 this year indeed, congrats!
And yes, we still love Fornasetti. Colour: gold. Nose: it’s got more oak
than the Cameronbridge, more vanilla, a mild coconutty side, more
butterscotch, more toasted brioche, hints of café latte, and then
touches of melon and peach. It’s got something of some mild wheated
bourbons, as far as I can tell. Mouth: same feeling. White chocolate,
vanilla, earl grey tea, grated coconut, then a touch of cologne (nice in
this context) and green oranges. Finish: rather long, with a little
green oak. And waffles, perhaps. Comments: sure I rather prefer Compass
Box’s Clynelish-and/or-Laphroaig-fuelled offerings, but as far as
lighter grain whiskies are concerned, I think this one really works. Now
Hedonism Maximus (ave!) was in a different league IMHO. SGP:540 - 80 points.

Nose: Wow. That is a thing of beauty. Rich. Lots of older grain notes going on here. Starts with the signature nail polish remover , acetone and vanilla with coconut oil. Further inspection and nosing reveals  fruity notes of exotic fruit : maybe mango and ripe melon. Hedonistic. Isn’t it?

Palate: Sweet and spicy on entry. Pepper and ginger on one side and creamy vanilla on the other. Rich sweet and coconut-y. There also sweet dough and acetone notes and the exotic fruit are here to stay. Delicious and complex. More cereals and even some apple Peel make up this rich and hedonistic palate.

Finish : Long. Spices , coconut and vanilla. Ginger bread. Butterscotch. Very nice.

Comes in a very nice clear plastic presentation box

Official Tasting Notes from Compass Box:

The combination of grain whiskies from different distilleries and of varying ages has created extraordinary complexity and juxtapositions of flavour. Indulgent yet lively, unctuous yet light,  a deep, sweet caramel coconut succulence combining with exultant tropical fruits.
