    An excellent Macallan from the old days. Tasted at the Super Tasting Sherry Wood Whisky's '60/'70 in February 2020.
    • Nose
      The nose starts gentle with polished oak, ripe apples and grapes. Followed by toffee and treacle. Sherry notes come though after a while. The oak is big but never overpowering. Some earthiness at the background
    • Taste
      Mouth-filling and malty with raisins and roasted chestnuts. Hints of vanilla and honey-clover. Cinnamon and aniseed. White chocolate as well. Sublime multi-layered whisky.
    • Finish
      Medium long with lingering Oloroso and a little nutmeg. Liquorice at the end. Very well balanced whisky.

    Wow: for me a very 'rough' Macallan;

    very interesting and good

    but not as 'pleasant' and 'round' as many others …

    Tasting with FineSpirits_butler1 in Japan.
    • Nose
      Rough, dark cooked cabbage with caraway, some chocolate, rum raisins, darkest baked rye bread crust, radishes, dirty fresh leather, burnt toffee, coffee ground, salad of tropical fruits, chocolate becomes more, some sweetish orange juice, oak, burnt red wine cake with chocolate, hints of red wine and wine cellar, strongly fermented cigar leaf, different jams, a little salt, hot dark cocoa, motor oil, cherry jam with Cognac, foul eggs - heavily peppered, some scouring powder, coms out of the cabbage, some resin & pine needles extract, thick quince jelly, dirty Sherry cask and some old Sherry, wet laundry - laid too long in the washing machine, at the hairdressers
    • Taste
      Cherries, citrus, spiciness, Sherry cask, wood, Brandy beans, smoke, sourness, rye bread with honey, coffee ground, cocoa powder, old upholstery, plums in their juice, Sherry bottle stopper, bitters
    • Finish
      Motor oil, tobacco, wooden chest of drawers, tart fruit bread, old nuts, pale apricot jelly, rum, arugula, grass, wood, dark chocolate, 'Underberg' bitters and some champagne punch, cocoa powder, citrus, cinnamon

    Again a Macallan more on the 'cabbage' side for me.

    Very good indeed but not as balanced as some others I tried.

    Of course the known high quality standard of this period.
