    Golden yellow in color
Good product, not too strong on smoky peat; rather wood-oriented.
The 48% is going very well.

Long-range finish on sugar and peat. Light smoke

    - Amazing value at 48%
    - Complex and rich, great burn - an acquired taste
    - Initial flavors are huge liquorice / anised quickly followed by, sweet peaty fresh apple and fruit
    - Smoke is actually a little subtle, mostly at the finish, I need more smoke ...
    - Less medical than the 10 year version which I love too. I could always do with more iodine and sea salt
    - If you are a whisky newbie don't try or you will be wasting your money. This is for men with long beards, not man-boys. You need to develop your taste buds. Took me a while to get into peat. but once you're in it is amazing. One dram is never enough, my bottle is disappearing quickly! If you like Glenfiddich / Glenlivet or (god forbid) any kind of Johnny Walker / Chivas mixed rubbish then stay away or it will offend your genteel senses and (lack of) sensitivity.

Aroma: Luminous aromas of peat ash, coconut and banana.
Taste: Complex, full-bodied and a lot of peat smoke. Surprised by a slight sweetness.
Finish: Long and dry with peat smoke and spices.

To think this used to be one of the best whiskies on the market. Not anymore, not since the Jim Beam takeover. Now this is a shadow of its self. Now it somehow tastes grainy... a lot of emptiness in the dram as if something else of no substance is just taking up space, a lot of the flavour and intensity seems to be lost..... who knows how.... but probably penny pinching.. Now it is not worth bothering with. Seek out old bottlings. A shame. But I have a stash of the real thing.

A very complex islay malt. I highly recommend it. I find the Quarter Cask a tad bit better than the 10-year old, because the QC has more complexity and a very nice "old wood" taste.

    P: smoke, caramel, vanilla

You can taste his young age. Well suited for Islay beginners on a budget.
    • Nose
Brittle, coastal flavors, phenolic smoke, slightly grassy, farm, coconut.
    • Taste
Medical smoke, hot spices like chili. Overall well balanced, but not exactly complex.
    • Finish
      Short and smoky, quickly drying.
