I liked that very much. Would never have come across Redbreast here.
    • Nose
      Blind sample:

      Colour:
      Amber

      Nose:
Starts for me with little and rough leather. Has something of a leather work shoe with a dried rubber sole. Behind it dusty raisins. There is also a sweet, dark berry scent. Slightly cheesy. I'll leave it ...
With a little time in the glass, the leather will stand out even more. In addition a grainy undertone. Old, dusty wing chair from which cold cigar smoke escapes. Dry cigar tobacco. Slightly greasy and with dried blueberries. Cherry liqueur and a little melted dark chocolate. Lovage and a good portion of dirt.
    • Taste
Spicy sherry start. Immediately again the leather and syrup-like, dark fruit sweetness. Chewing tobacco. This grainy - sweet undertone also plays a role immediately. This tart leather is really great. Pickled cherries and blackberries. Herbs in the form of rosemary and a little thyme. This creamy consistency is really great.
    • Finish
Long. Creamy and sherry-heavy. With nice dark fruit sweetness.

Aroma: Intense, dense, sugary. Dried fruits in rum, cream cake, steamed raisins, butter biscuits, apricots in their own juice, burnt sugar candies. Vanilla, citrus, dusty burlap, spices, wet wood, varnish.

    Taste: Intense, dense, sweet.
Apricot jam, butter biscuits, burnt sugar candies, raisins, rum notes. A little spice, wet wood.

Finish: Longer than average, sweet with noble bitterness. Apricot compote, apricot pits, vanilla, a hint of cocoa, wet wood.

Conclusion: In my lifetime, this is the second "serious" Irishman after Redbreast 15. In general, a good sample, but slightly pumped up the taste and finish; there is a lack of such an abundance of shades and halftones as in the aroma.

In a new comparison RedBreast beautiful flight. Putting three editions of 12yo barrels next to each other is therefore quite a decent show. Batch: B1 / 13 - 59.9%, B1 / 17 - 58.2%, B2 / 19 - 55.8%. Ideal for comparing the continuity of flavors and the art of a master blender to make batch by batch the same. So I rate the B1 / 13 edition as unrivaled, especially against the new B2 / 19. This one is much darker, darker, there are many common factors from 21yo. Really great

A good whiskey, but it's a bit too uncompromising and powerful to my taste.
    • Nose
This reminds me as much of bourbon as it does of pot still Irish whiskey. It's probably the spices and pronounced triple sec notes, accompanied by a big whack of vanilla. Faint notes of rye, as well as a touch of glue and peaches.
    • Taste
Syrupry, but now we're pretty much in grain whiskey territory.  There's big orange notes, a good amount of oak and spices and a bit of espresso, but also caramel, vanilla and apple. At the back of palate a more pronounced sherry cask influence reveals itself.
    • Finish
      Lingering spices, caramel and apple.

    Balance (21)
It's rather bourbon, good bourbon (84)
    • Nose
Dry, grass and wood ... raw dough, vanilla ... with water healing candies and apples. I changed my glass and mood ... I earned a lot of flower honey +1 (21)
    • Taste
      Caramel, varnish, wood (21)
    • Finish
Finish sweet, caramel, varnish, vanilla (21)

On the nose, characteristic smell of sherry, then scents of rum and bourbon!
    2nd:
rum molasses for sure, there must be a lot of grain in it, otherwise, vanilla, caramel, dried fruit dried, a little mold and wood.

This is a drop, which I wish for the bar in heaven, whereby the magic potion does not overburden the certainly not too richly endowed cash register of Peter at the same time.
    • Nose
First, I want to find out the Fassart: But first comes apple, slightly leathery umflort, then rise bitered apple seeds and a colorful and fresh fruit mix. But back to the barrels used: definitely the finest sherry, but also vanilla from bourbon barrels. But that is really a successful mixture! Very fine barrels!
    • Taste
Syrupy, full-bodied, spicy. What more do you want?
    • Finish
And everything condenses in the finish something, without any share would gain the upper hand. Slightly salty (like with a splash of sea water) and peppery.

    Nose:

Fresh wood, American oak vanilla, wood shavings, graphite, tobacco sour note, glue, engine oil, dark bitter cold Earl Gray tea, lavender, rosemary and citrus.

    Taste:

Again lots of wood, licorice, vanilla, cinnamon, caramel, brown sugar, sandal wood. In the development some nutmeg and very nice tannins.

    Finish.

Nice and long, with a leather note, wood tannins and caramel sweetnes.

    Very very nice...

A really good dram for the price and highly drinkable at the full strength.
    • Nose
Deep notes of sherry, caramel, almonds, cherry liqueur, liquid chocolate, orange zest. Notes of good old cognac.
    • Taste
Very chocolatey, sweet, deep and rich. Orange zest, all kinds of berries. A heavy sherry cask influence, but it worked really well with the character of the spirit.
    • Finish
Quite long, mouthwarming, notes of chocolate and gentle fruitiness appear again. Towards the end, it feels slightly spirity and young, but it's acceptable here.

The palate here is very impressive.
    • Nose
Very hot on the nose undiluted. Nice metallic/rusty notes, engine oil (pot still markers for me). Green apple peals.
Water: More aromatic, some cooking herbs, mint and eucalyptus oils.
    • Taste
Excellent. So thick, so full of flavour. Sweet, fruity, overripe oranges, black pepper. Tasty.
Water: some sherry notes. Fruit sweetness, and much more spices - pepper and nutmeg
    • Finish
Long, spicy and some cereal sweetness.

  28. Ivynor scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

Good product, nice and easy to drink. I think the distillery would gain in quality from distilling only malted barley and not a grain proportion, which makes this redbreast a little too much on the rum.
    • Nose
Good sherry and grain. Coconut, vanilla, plum, raisins, baked cake. The whole thing is reminiscent of an old molasses rum. Alcohol very well integrated
    • Taste
Alcohol always well integrated, well balanced, in continuity of the nose. it looks like an old rum of barrel, with a lot of wood, vanilla, coconut. Notes of old barrel-prunned plum, mirabelle plum, toasted wood and orange zest. Slight bitterness at the end of the mouth.
    • Finish
Old rum, wood, vanilla, caramel, prunes and raisins, a little spice.

  29. KayMeertens scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

Could have mistaken this one for a single grain.

Sweeter than the 2012 version with a bit more sherry influence, but they're very similar.
    • Nose
Caramel, apple, vanilla, peach, grain and a whiff of glue. With water also orange and cherry.
    • Taste
Caramel, apple, grain, cherry, vanilla and pepper. Water adds quite a lot of orange.
    • Finish
Apple, orange, caramel, vanilla and grain.
