This is a bit disappointing given its cost. Luckily I got a half price deal on mine :) . The "rare casks from distilleries open during the reign of George V" is such BS. All that means is that they were open in 1936 which doesn't exclude that many! I think the standard Blue Label is better as is the Green. 81. They should spend less on the outlandish packaging and more on the liquid.
    • Nose
Warm, nutty nose at first. Some ripe red fruits. Spices, nutmeg and ginger. Malty and with some light smoke. Something herbal like thyme. Tamarind? Gives way to light oak and the spices come up front.
    • Taste
Lovely rich taste. Very spicy - ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon, white pepper, but perhaps a little too much oaky wood influence. A little sulphur hiding in there too? Light mint at the end.
    • Finish
The finish is medium and very drying as the tannins gain sway.Light mint at the end. A touch disappointing given the rare casks supposed to be in this blend.

He is even better than the Chivas Regal 25 (WID: 51613). Overall, more complex and deeper. He can do something. Priced but also very ambitious. He is far from worth it for me.

Another fantastic luxurious blend that certainly deserves the moniker ‘royal’. But for that price I can buy four bottles of Blue Label or even two of the Ghost & Rare. Apologies, Your Majesty.
    • Nose
The nose is very soft, but beautifully layered. It starts on nuts and ripe fruit, mostly of the red variety. Very herbal with touches of thyme and rose petals. Some barley sugar and mild wood notes to give some depth. Roasted nuts and dark chocolate. Hint of sweet smoke. Impressive.
    • Taste
It is very rich on the palate. Spicy on ginger, cinnamon and white pepper with a hint of nutmeg. A leaf of mint keeps it fresh and leaves enough room for citrus fruit to show itself. Mostly oranges. Less complex than hoped, but still silky soft and seductive.
    • Finish
It turns mildly dry in the medium long finish. A touch of mint at the death.
