  1. MaltMartin scored this whisky 81 points Connoisseur

A decent aperitief style whisky for a late sunny afternoon. Nothing more, nothing less.
    • Nose
Light and clean. Malty. Als grassy freshness and citrus fruit. Later on some smokiness as well.
    • Taste
Pear and melon. Malty sweetness. Delicate spice. A little bit thin as well though.
    • Finish
Medium long. Dry smokiness but also fruitiness again.

I love the labels on this bottle, it screams heritage.

    sample.

this is quite an interesting one.
    • Nose
some sour apples. slightly rubbery (good rubber) or new car interior. slightly salty and there is hint of peat. it's very faint but it's there. banana and some vanilla. quite mineral in a way. honey. i do get some farmy notes, or maybe it's wishful thinking, but there is some hay at the very least.
    • Taste
this is mild. starts on honey, barley. it still has that little minerality. @lincoln i get the white wine too. bready. slightly sugary. then something between wool and toffee (yeah i know it sounds very weird). the sugary taste remains, which i am not really a fan of but this one is good.
    • Finish
short to medium. on vanilla, some vegetal notes (faintly). the aftertaste is quite sugary.

The older bottles of RL are better than the newest offerings.

A simple profile but pretty decent for that.
    • Nose
Quite mellow, honeyed, pear, melon and white wine.
    • Taste
Smooth but a little thin with a bitter note. It then gets quite creamy and some sweetness appears. Still getting the same fruits as on the nose with very faint tobacco notes.
    • Finish
A little short for me and the pear taste lingers with the bitterness, but just less than you would want
