You can complain about the price, about the malt not. Very nice, as the notes of exotic fruits and the mild smoke unite. The 43% are just right.
    • Nose
The 15YO surprised at the beginning with a relatively mild peat note. The otherwise typical for Laphroaig phenolic-medical grade is weak. The smoke is subtle and mild and dresses notes of grapefruit and blood orange. As soon as the nose has become accustomed to the smoke and the peat, the fruit note intensifies and remains for a long time. Over time, notes of old leather, tobacco and old oak planks come.
    • Taste
Creamy and mouth-filling onset. Slightly oily. Grapefruit again, with lemon jelly. Mild seasoning of pepper and nutmeg. Slightly peaty, earthy, loamy. Fantastically fine mild smoky note, which is present for a long time.
    • Finish
Drying in the medium long finish.

Well put-together malt which needs to be explored with time. Suffers of 43% abv. imho as flavors are not as concentrated as in earlier versions of the 15 or 10 @43% abv. for that matter. Inferior to the latter ones, too. Still decent complexity. I like it better than the newer 16 @48% abv. for its elegance.

    (Blind tasting 2018)
I really like the end of the week, uncomplicated and still drinkable, reminds me of Talisker, maybe the Storm? I estimate age at 12 years. Alcohol is probably less than 46%, in the beginning it was still a bit pungent, but not more later.

      Aah, delicious smoke!
So greasy, wet cardboard, and smoldering smoke that reminds me faintly of Laphroaig.
    • Taste
      88 88
A bit tart at first, then peppery sweetness with the smoked fish aroma, mackerel with red pepper.
    • Finish
      87 87
Sounds longer, but the sweetness fades in favor of the beautiful oily smoky trail.

  5. Gweddry scored this whisky 87 points Expert Junior

    interesting, less expressive, delicate
    • Nose
fresh, sweet pears, yellow melon, pear jam, sea buckthorn, mango, trace of sherry, fine smoke, meadow honey, sweet ketchup, then omelette, liqueur pralines, apple puree
    • Taste
on islay soft and less pronounced, coals and peat, mango, salty pickle, lemon pepper,
    • Finish
omelette, smoke, traces of tropical fruit and brine

  6. Mascht scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

A breakfast laphroaig, perfectly balanced, but lacking in strength. In barrel strength, certainly 90P +.
    • Nose
      90 90
fruity and maritime, the peat note is in the background for now, bitter citrus notes of kumquat and grapefruit, dried banana chips and salt
    • Taste
      86 86
unfortunately a bit watery but very balanced, creamy and maritime like smoked salmon, oysters, cigar tobacco, boiled beef, tropical fruits
    • Finish
      87 87
memories of orange peel and marine smoke remain for a long time

  7. DrunkDude scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

What a pity that this dram is not bottled in cask strength!
    • Nose
      89 89
Burnt ashes, ripe strawberries, burnt wood, fruity incense, fresh apple, lemon peel, smoky, malty pastry, hints of pineapple. Hints of baked bread. 89
    • Taste
      88 88
Rich stawberry and apple honey then transfers to liquorice, plums sour, lemon sour, pepper spices, some brought up citrus bitterness 89
    • Finish
      87 87
Spices, and herbal sweetness, citrus bitterness. 87

      8//9

Quite sharp! Phenolic and harsh at first, in a way that makes me think it's higher proof than it is. Underneath though, classic sweet-savory Laphroaig notes. // Vanilla notes come in strong, gorgeous sweet-strong smoky notes.
    • Taste
      85 85
      8.5//8.5

Soft and surprisingly sweet despite the nose. Some red fruit and meaty smoke. // Again, oak and vanilla sing as the smoke dies down a bit. Still great, but very different.

Nose: for a Laphroaig, a mild medical peat smoke, iodine, blood orange, vanilla and a pleasant mint note

Flavor: sweet with caramel and grapefruit, light spiciness (pepper) and leatheriness, nice maritime, a little vanilla, in the mouth the peat flavors are more subtle

Finish: medium, great combination of smoke and sweet fruit
