There was a surprising earthy, almost smoky depth to this sample – we were puzzled but not displeased.
The nose had singed lime, creosote and polished mahogany – but also
honey, banana chips, apple, cinnamon and malt loaf. Water turned it to
dark chocolate Florentines, toasted oak, hessian, ginger and polished
The unreduced palate was huge and mouth-drawing – espresso, leather,
tobacco, chilli and treacle toffee – but all tempered by plums,
nectarines, fig rolls and a pleasant citrus and honey combination.
The reduced palate – teasing and pleasing – rum and raisin fudge, black jacks, stewed apples, Jaffa cakes and an old pipe rack.
