Whisky Reviews for Tomatin Cù Bòcan

A very own, in my opinion, successful whisky. What's special about special flavor, cask storage and finishing combinations - an endless story ...
    • Nose
The first olfactory impression is dominated by vanilla and light oak. The slight smoke was barely noticeable at the first key, and then it is in the nose for the second and third time. As well as slightly sour apple and fresh, light stone fruit. The alcohol is well integrated.
    • Taste
See above. Comes fine in the mouth, without sharpness, but with power. The sour apple is good to taste and yes, the coconut (nut) taste as well. Then peat taste appears more easily on the horizon.
    • Finish
Rather short finish, the fruity freshness remains, then it's over.

    Nose:-
Deep and mystery, subtle waves of boiled sweet rounded with grounded
herb powder, ginger and dried leaf on the top half. Obvious pungent
of shaved woods. Distant bon fire. Palate:- Quite tense and prickly on first sip, and then smoke seep
through slowly, remind me the style of Bowmore. Lightly nutty and oily
    feel.

Finish:- Profound burnt-wood, medium length. Fresh minty aftertaste.

It's interesting to try a virgin-oak whisky, even if I'm a bit split. The taste is pretty good. Nice with apple, vanilla and fresh oak. On leaving, however, you will notice the young age and accordingly, this can not keep up with the taste. Pity!

much more interesting than the "normal" Cù Bòcan - again a Virgin Oak whisky, which I find really delicious
    • Nose
fresh, exotic fruits, lemon, lime, pineapple, a little vanilla, the smoke is only to be guessed
    • Taste
tropical-fruity, slightly bitter: grapefruit, blood orange, pineapple, with a dark, slightly bitter chocolate nut note, cocoa, rum balls
    • Finish
      dry, slightly smoky

Pineapple, apple sauce, vanilla and oak, with barely any peat on the nose. Pears and vanilla, plus coconut on the palate. Some spices but no peat.

This is the second in the 'Wood Influence' series of Tomatin's lightly peated Cù Bòcans. My full review: http://maltandoak.com/tomatins-second-cu-bocan-cask-maturation-series-virgin-oak/

Very sweet and fruity with a minor supporting peat smoke. Full review: http://whiskygospel.com/2015/03/10/whisky-review-tomatin-cu-bocan-virgin-oak-edition/
