Whisky Reviews for Glen Keith 1993 MBl

  1. rottendon scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

A very unusual profile, moreover for a sherry man. While the sherry is found only in homeopathic doses, the oak was obviously very active. I like that very well, only in the departure of doing just too little.
    • Nose
Dense, very typical bourbon notes right at the beginning. After a while, notes of grapefruit, white wine, butterfudge, brown butter and freshly cut grass crystallize as main aromas. Absolutely no typical sherry nose. Only very late are some dried fruits, but at the same time the malt goes clearly on the spicy side, sweet notes go back further and further. He gets a leathery mineral touch, buttery floor wax. The nose is heated again much sweeter, denser, and a little more alcoholic, but the floor wax remains the main note.
    • Taste
Wow, subtle sweetness of dark, malty honey, with plenty of menthol, acid and tannins. What an oak board, but not unpleasant, no, the whole thing is quite harmonious.
    • Finish
Extremely short finish, the only thing that lasts longer is a delicate reminder of honey-sweetened hazelnuts.

A very surprising Glen Keith. Unusual in a positive sense.
    • Nose
      91 91
Dried mango, caramelized fruits, plums, peach, marjoram, herb garden in the evening
    • Taste
      90 90
mouth-filling and harmonious, round, tasty, slightly dry, nougat, pine honey, leather tobacco, oak
    • Finish
      90 90
Long, sweet, dry, chocolate, espresso, tobacco

Not as fruity spirit as i would expect from Glen Keith, still quite tasty.

Nose: Tropical fruits and apples. perhaps some grassy notes as well? Vanilla and tobacco.Taste: more gras and tobacco. now the sherry casks shows it influence: so more notes of chocolate and mocha. Also some spices are playing along in the back

Finish: bit disappointing... really short? some bitterness stays behind.

  8. KayMeertens did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

    No obvious sherry influence.
    • Nose
Grass, green apple peel, minerals, caster sugar, vanilla and a little tobacco. Not a typical Glen Keith nose in my opinion.
    • Taste
More tobacco. Vanilla, caramel, green apple and peach.
    • Finish
The grass comes back. Caster sugar, apple, tobacco and caramel.

Conclusion: 86/100 points - "quickly forgotten - whisky". Although Glen Keith is one of my favorite distilleries, this is not one of the bottlings I'll mourn afterwards. The whisky seems like he can not decide what he should represent. The barrel is too dominant in places and overall I feel the whisky as quite wild.
    • Nose
Very spicy nose with many herbs and plants. Subtle vanilla notes and a caramel sweetness. Dry oak and slightly nutty in the background. Pretty interesting and rather autumnal.
    • Taste
On the palate he shows Glen Keith untypically very dominant and aggressive. Many herbs and spices. The alcohol is clearly felt. In the background notes of mocha and dark chocolate.
    • Finish
A very short but powerful finish. Clearly influenced by nutty chocolate. Not very complex, but intense.
