Whisky Reviews for Tamdhu 1958 JW

4 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 91.18 points

  1. hs305 scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

[August, 2005]  Together with friends I emptied bottle no. 093 that I bought for 133 Euro in July, 2005.

In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 85.  My notes state a very complex and adorable old style whisky profile that unfortunately is dominated by lots of bitter and adstringent wooden notes (that are way too much for me).  This whisky certainly was bottled ten years too late (maybe fifteen).  But I can imagine that lovers of modern style whiskies (that are all heavily wood-driven because of the cask-shortage crisis) will like this one too, most probably....

  3. KayMeertens scored this whisky 94 points Specialist

I absolutely love this style of whisky, which surely isn't coming back.
    • Nose
Very old-fashioned. Dried apricot, beeswax, dried fig, leather, old books, Turkish delight and mocha. Later a little tobacco.
    • Taste
Lots of honey and dried fig. Toffee, mocha and a bit of gorgonzola.
    • Finish
More mocha and toffee. A slightly herbal dryness.

  4. Vassago Clynelish did not rate this whisky Administrator

This one comes from an unsold stock from Hart Bros, that was bottled as a 42 yo

and then simply re-labelled by Jack Wieber in year 2004.
