The nose starts off with crisp barley, peat and smoked fish, complemented by barley sugar and a clean citrus note. A bit of tar and burnt heather arrive along with a touch of ash and bitumen. Very clean and fresh with a lingering sweet roundness of vanilla custard, as well as a maritime edge. Delicate!
Quite sweet on the palate with delicate barley sugar, vanilla cream and gentle yellow pear, before a massive load of spice takes over. There's lots of pepper, chili and peat, complemented by lingering cold smoke. Rather youngish with burnt herbs and pleasant liquorice sweets in the back. Very intense and delicate.
A long, clean and sweet finish with barley sugar and warm spice, cracked black pepper and oak, covered by gentle peat smoke and ash.
WITH WATER: A slightly increased freshness on the nose, peat smoke, maritime notes and malted barley, complemented by gentle vanilla. Water wipes out the lingering sweetness of barley sugar bringing more intense spices to the fore. The sweetness, however, returns on the finish with lingering malt and honey, accompanied by peat smoke and gentle oak.
A beautiful Islay malt. Very present on the nose with lots of maritime character and a delicate sweetness, especially on the palate. Youngish indeed but already well balanced with a nice combination of sweetness and spiciness permanently surrounded by lingering peat smoke. Very harmonious and tasty.
