- Ayrer's PX Sherry Cask, Vintage 2009, 56% alc.
Distillery: Hausbrauerei Altstadthof
Aging: 3 years in new American white oak, finish in Pedro Ximenez sherry casks (small quartercasks)
Region: Bavaria, Germany Nose: spices, dry and caressing. Then immediately dark fruits, some leather and sultanas, dried oranges and fresh nectarines. A slight nuttiness in filigree sweetness. Dark chocolate. The fruits come again and again. Palate: Strong, spicy, really strong spicy notes, including cinnamon and cloves, mulled wine. Dries your mouth, matching dry fruits, espresso and dark chocolate. Finish : Long and strong, sherry aromas and dry and spicy wood flavors. Towards the end, tobacco and coffee. Conclusion: Young and strong, the small sherry casks have already worked wonderfully. When I think back to the New Make ... Here's a great single malt I blindly assigned to the Scottish Highlands. The distillery should go on the way with the sherry casks. 90/100 points (tasted 2015)
Thanks to the Hausbrauerei Altstadthof for the sample
