    • Nose
      82 82
Peat and smoke ofcourse. Complemented by black pepper and ashes. Right after you'll find notes of seaweed and something beach like. A note of oak. At the end hints of lemon and toffees.
    • Taste
      83 83
Peat and smoke with black pepper and seasalt. Again the seaweed with wet sand. Sweet notes at the end again like vanilla, caramel and apples.
    • Finish
      83 83
Medium-long and warm. With notes of smoke, vanilla and a bit of caramel.

Talisker Skye is the Isle of Skye's oldest distillery's ode to its contrasting landscape. Since 2015, the whisky has been produced directly on the rough sea and matured in American refill and toasted oak casks, with a slightly larger proportion of toasted casks. This gives the single malt the maritime-smoky note to get the feeling of spending a day on the coast of the Isle of Skye.

    • Nose
Salt, smoke, sweetness. A breeze of the sea breeze. A bit of minerality and earthiness. Caramel, toffee. Salty caramel.
    • Taste
Sweetness, salt. Lots of salt. Salty caramel. Sea. Slightly warming up. Still sweet and salty.
    • Finish
Slightly warming up. Sweetness, toffee. Some sweet smoke. Salty caramel. Salt, but less than on the tongue or nose. Sweet creaminess. The average length.

Talisker is one of my favorite drinks. There's always a lot going on in them. I "approached" this whisky several times, after which I decided to write about its qualities.
It is good, but unremarkable compared to the other outlets of this distillery. Pretty sweet in every variant (aroma, taste, finish). It is also fruity, but with too much bitterness, which supposedly disappears in the end, but leaves that specific aftertaste. After tasting drams, I tried the 10-year-old version. And if I had done it before drinking the rated one, I would have to revise my grade considerably. Bought for a small amount of money and this is also its advantage.
    • Nose
tender, sweet, smoky, peaty, apples, raisins, a little oak, earthy
    • Taste
quite sweet, fruit, apples, citrus, freshly cut grass, smoke, salty breeze, seaweed, some smoke
    • Finish
long, warming, sweet, honey-bitter, peppery end with a charred log.

Just go buy the 10 year old instead of this.

  9. The_Osprey scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

Talisker Skye 45.8%, consumed August 2019. Aroma is vanilla, some young whisky esters suggesting pineapple and papaya, faintest smoke. Burnt creme brulee. Taste is oily with some vanilla and a rich burnt smokiness. Nice body for sure. The taste is also good - the brash Talisker spirit isn't as jarring as it can be. Actually the overall effect is very pleasing. Hard and crisp. Lingering burnt barley and brine. Uncompromising like most Talisker. However, this is much better than the 10 to my taste. Has that Talisker harshness in one sip, and then the next is balanced and pleasant. Maybe a Talisker for people who don't like Talisker? 3.6/86

  10. hafssol scored this whisky 75 points Expert Junior

Clearly young and with some alcohol sharpness, especially on the nose and in the foretaste. After that, the typical Talisker character is there, with its seaside peatiness and peppery notes, just a bit easier and less complex.

I've been quite skeptical about this and, even if the overall feeling isn't bad at all, it still can't compete with the 10 yo. Had it as a sample and actually I wouldn't buy a bottle, alao because the small price difference from the 10 yo, which doesn't justify the downgrade in taste.

  11. SimondeVette scored this whisky 79 points Expert Senior

A good dram. Diverse in taste; soft and peaty
    • Nose
Oak, grain, a bit of smoke
    • Taste
A bit of smoke, but soft, vanilla, white pepper
    • Finish
A bit sharp, because of the pepper

  12. Thermidor scored this whisky 80 points Connoisseur

Neither good nor bad, and similar to the GoT Talisker in that both have had all corners sanded out to make a round, easily consumed tarry peated whisky.
    • Nose
Nosing this next to a current Talisker 10yo, this one is extremely similar, but lacking the saline and other seaside notes of the 10yo. It's actually kind of hard to score this one accurately, since my nose tunes it out after a few moments since trying to pick up any detail from it is a taxing, boring experience.
    • Taste
A rounder, less salty 10yo here as well. It's surprising how similar the two are, but that just confirms to me that Skye is an unnecessary product.
    • Finish
Swift. The tar stays a while but nothing else does.

  13. Whisky Hamster scored this whisky 79 points Expert Senior

Hard to really mess up a Talisker b/c the distillate is of so high quality, but this one - except for weird young ib bottlings of course - comes as close as it gets. Talisker with cojones removed, great idea. What a waste.

The Skye is more mossy / peaty than smoky, but offers a good introduction to the peppery world of Talsiker.
    • Nose
At the beginning clear citrus aromas with vanilla, then peppery and very maritime. There is also something smoked before the moss and peat make themselves felt.
    • Taste
In the mouth again lemon with peppery heat, young wood and peat. Finally, some sweet honey.
    • Finish
Very spicy and woody in the finish with light peat.

    • Nose
      73 73
      Mainly smoke, and very uninteresting
    • Taste
      80 80
The redeeming part of the whisky, as the taste is not bad at all, the smoke is pleasant, but again, not a lot else going on.

Again, nothing apart from the smoke, forgettable.

The Talisker Skye is the small brother of the Talisker 10 years old and a good Whisky to start into the smoky world. But nothing for more experienced Talisker fans.
    • Nose
      83 83
Very smooth smoke, a touch of spiciness, earthy, some white pepper and a little bit of orange. In general a lot softer than the 10 years old.
    • Taste
      84 84
Light pepper that gets stronger over time. Some oak spices, caramel, smoke, a hint of green apple and salt.
    • Finish
      84 84
Softer than the 10 years old, no so much of the chili catch, little oaky dryness, short to medium finish.

Beats whisky, whisky makes you remember hot sauces. It has its own uniqueness, expressed in the aftertaste.
    • Nose

Pepper citruses, salt, phenols, smoke, smoked oranges with zest, smoked meat, dried grass.
    • Taste
      82 82
Meets sweet malt, orange zest, pepper, smoke.
    • Finish
      82 82
Nakatom fettles and envelops the throat with bright natural pepper, adding smoked orange when weakening.

I like the 10er better, nevertheless good
    • Nose
Smoke, orange and citrus, spices, malt, maritime note
    • Taste
First, this typical Talisker sharpness. Like really hot chili. Then comes smoke and behind it the wort. He immediately takes the entire mouth. Then a small touch of nut flashes through. At the second sip (after getting used to the heat), malt and honey are added. Interesting
    • Finish
Long and warm with lots of smoke and a touch of oak. Dry and it remains a sharpness, which is more pepper this time.

I fell in love, for me a horny malt
because he has only minimal smoke and also the ham is missing
    • Nose
floury brown apple, red fruit, sherry becomes more, good sweetness, slightly raisins, minimal smoke
    • Taste
oily and soft on the palate
good sherry !!, dark chocolate, coffee, nice oak, sweetness, slightly raisins, spicy, the alcohol is good
    • Finish

  35. Hupsende Hippie scored this whisky 78 points Expert Senior

The taste is not wrong, but it is too light and too thin.
    • Nose
Smoky, lime, apple, spicy vanilla and wood
    • Taste
Sweet fruit, a bit of vanilla. Sharp, thin and light. The sweet disappears quickly. Then peat and a touch of liquorice.
    • Finish
Relatively long but inadequate. There is peat and a bit of vanilla in the aftertaste, but also a sort of 'bitter hole' in my mouth, which I also taste after I have had light soft drinks or sweet sweets.

Has the typical Talisker roughness on the nose but is untypical soft on the palate - almost weak - but still quite drinkable and convenient - of course not for hard core Talisker fans

The nose is peaty, spicy, lively, smoky and marinated, with a medicinal hint and cinnamon. You smell smoked fish, a little iodine, country ham, holly, dry dust. The entry in the mouth is suave, peat and brown sugar, a touch of molasses, and it seems prune. The finish is salty and peppery, a bit pungent, earthy and cardamom. It's quite long on the palate, but overall this whisky is too young to be really good.

Is very disappointing, constantly feeling that there is a brake on this whisky, that there is more in it than can / may come out. No, no shadow of the '10'.
    • Nose

    • Taste
Soft, light smoke and peat, some sweet, vanilla. Very flat, seems like there is a brake on this whisky. Caramel too.

This isn't a bad whisky but it isn't great either, it's one of those where you wet your whistle before you go down the pub and to have when you come back.
    • Nose
Green olives, fetta cheese, English mustard, slightly peppery, beef Oxo cube, touch of smokiness , can't really find anything else.
    • Taste
As soon as you taste this you feel there is something lacking for a Talisker, plus it tastes watered down and not like a 45.8% at all, there is a small pinch of spice and some fried mackerel.
    • Finish
A medium finish that lingers but it lacks bite, more like sucking on an old copper coin.

    Talisker Light

Just like the Port Ruighe, this Skye is another NAS bottling by Talisker. It is clearly an entry level malt, judging by the price tag. It is also a bit younger than the standard 10 Year Old. This Talisker, named after the island where the distillery is located, was meant to be the successor of the 10, but so far it looks like both will remain on the shelves, which is a good thing.

The nose is rather closed and soft. The typical pepper and peat is somewhat understated, if you know what I mean. I get mostly grain cookies, citrus, vanilla and pears.

On the palate, it comes a lot closer to the 10. Brine, soft peat and a lot of pepper precede the sweetness of the white fruit and the vanilla. There is even a hint o peach.

The finish is medium long, sweet and spicy. The peat smoke lingers the longest.

If the Talisker 10 is a scoundrel, then this is it's docile little brother. The 10 wrapped in silk. Talisker Light. Nothing wrong with it, but since they are in the same price range, I opt for the 10. Thanks for the sample, Pat.

    • Nose
Peated clearly with vanilla apple / pear pie behind.
    • Taste
Not very powerful on peat and spices.
    • Finish
A finish in the continuity of the mouth on peat and spices ... we find in this finish, the peppery side of Talisker ... there is also a bit of salt marsh ...

Mildly briny, light sea salt and gentle peat.

Fruity on apple juice and light peach.
    • Finish
The peat last into a medium lenght finish with some gentle spice and a pinch of weak pepper.

On the nose, the iodine, young and yellow fruits, undifferentiated, it is nice with a pronounced side of woody.
On the palate, almonds, roasted nuts, with yellow fruits (peach) in return, and spices, pepper and peat, then macerated grapes, and too much alcohol!
In the final, quite strong, then fades quickly leaving only the smell of old plums and leather.
a good dram of introduction to the Talisker, but which is sorely lacking depth with what was proposed ..before!

Talisker should be full of charater. Pepper and salt, peat and chili but not this!? It's too easy, too much lemonade and not enough whisky.

    Talisker is
supposed to be pleasantly straightforward and wound as tightly as a spring, as
we French people say. Regarding that, this malt is out of the track, though
    perfectly drinkable.
    • Nose
      Grainy and
slightly rooty. Soaked cereals, juniper, the whole being softened by quite some
      toffee.
    • Taste
      Better now.
Phenols are here (at least!), but once again, they are sweetened by diluted
      cheap caramel syrup. Quite frustrating.
    • Finish
      Sustained
      by a soft smoky taste.

Talisker light, with noticeable alcohol, does not have to be
    • Nose
a little smoke, malt, grated lemon zest, some spiciness, nutmeg, liquorice, also hinted at chocolate
    • Taste
pleasant smoke level, sweet, caramel, vanilla, slightly alcoholic, you notice the youth, brickelnd, less intense and spicy than the 10s
    • Finish
      sweet, caramel and fading smoke

Another NAS from Talisker. Let's see what this is like.
It's certainly very young, has more cereal and apple notes than the traditional Taliskers. Next to it, the distillery character of light peat and pepper is there, but it's overshadowed by the notes of young whisky.
It's not very complex, but the finish is relatively long, which is a small plus.

Final verdict: barely legal, not my style. I hope that Talisker will release some quality stuff again, or else I fear that it's reputation might be at stake if they continue in this direction. Too bad.

    Serge from Whiskyfun says:
Talisker 'Skye' (45.8%, OB, 2015) Ahem. I don’t know what to say. You know, you’re feeling like an old 911 lover who came across a 924, a few years back. Ahem… Colour: gold. Nose: oh. More caraway and ginger from the oak, less wet dogs and peat and smoke and seawater and everything. This baby gets nowhere fast after the 10. I don’t know, I really don’t know, I really really don’t know… what to think. Let’s call it a ‘blendish’ Talisker, or a 924 indeed. Mouth: er… Spicy oak, cumin, ginger, other oak spices… I mean, er… I don’t think Talisker lovers will need this. Finish: quite long, oaky/spicy. Comments: dispensable. More spicy oak, less ‘spirit’ (in all meanings of that word), that’s exactly what we do not like much at WF Towers. Yes you may call me an elitist or a snob or a purist or whatever you like. I’ve seen that a part of the blogosphere quite loved it. Well, I’m probably not part of that crew… Now, maybe we should have tried this little Skye before the stunning 10. This is almost squandering heritage, friends. SGP:375 - 76 points.

N: Peat, smoke and some oak.
T: Mild arrival that builds to a muddled body and rushes to finish
F: Peat smoke with mineral tones
C: Theres nothing terrible here and yet all its rather directionless. I’m just not sure why you’d buy this when theres the far superior 10yo, for less. [Skye £39, 10yo £34 - June ’15]

    Scores a C

If you like Talisker, make provisions for 10 years! This Talisker Skye will not satisfy you. It lacks personality, aromatic power, maturity.
    • Nose
It seems pretty young. There is a mixture of yellow fruit not very ripe, apricots, apples or even banana still very green. In parallel, gravitate notes of burnt wood, roasted peanuts, hazelnuts, nuts. Add to that, notes of citrus, ginger and salt and you get a nose not uninteresting, although a little too shy.
    • Taste
We can confirm what we felt on the nose. It's a little too shy. The whole is fresh and the aromatic field revolves around fairly common notes for a Talisker: pepper, salt, ginger, hazelnut, walnuts, notes a little more maritime and then wood. A little bit too much ...
    • Finish
Medium, on spices, smoke, and a bit bitter vegetal tip. The aromas fade quickly enough.

    Talisker Skye (45,8%, OB 2015)

Nose: fairly sweet and youngish with pears, orange juice and a little apricot. This mixes with a soft, rounded smokiness and hints of toasted oak indeed. Vanilla. There’s brine as well, but the typical peppery notes are much less obvious. More nutmeg this time. Mouth: much more spicy now (pepper, ginger) and smoky, but again balanced by a candied sweetness (baked apple, peach candy, berries). Hints of dark chocolate with a pinch of salt towards the end. Some tarry smoke growing stronger. Finish: medium long, with the spicy warmth and smoke standing out, coming to a drier, ashy finale.

This is an uncommonly sweet and fruity Talisker. Young alright, but the toasted oak works out quite well. A nice entry-level whisky and the best NAS so far from Talisker. Around € 35.

    Score: 83/100

    not really bad whisky
    pleasant and easy going
but not what I expect from a Talisker
this filling is missing the bite
    • Nose
      initially behaving in aroma
      sweet and salty lemon
      Mandarin, mirabelle, yellow fruits
      made by the sea
      pleasant smoke
      Honey and caramel
      wort
    • Taste
a little fruit, a little spice, a little sea
      very little of everything
You have to look for the Chili Catch
    • Finish
      subtle smoke and oak flavor

pity Talisker did this to himself

not a bad whisky but not really good either

    Ranking 1st run, 2nd mouth, 3rd nose
    • Nose
      something stingy
      a fruit brandy
then he comes slowly with chocolate note and fruit
      he becomes salty, maritime
      a light cow bar aroma
      Horseheart sharpness behind it
the flavors are completely closed and do not open properly
      that looks young and immature
    • Taste
      initially softer in the mouth
but also here the notes do not unfold properly
behind the alcohol aromas you can feel fruit, chocolate and maritime echoes
The smoke develops in the throat, but is also lost in the alcohol
    • Finish
      medium
      in the end, some Fassaroma

  88. irrerelevant scored this whisky 82 points Expert Senior

Alcoholic in the nose, somewhat sprightly, young, straightforward, sweetish smoke, powerful, spicy, peppery, sour green apple
quite alcoholic in the mouth, first peppery spiciness, tingling sweet and some smoke comes, after the nose more pleasant than expected, a bit mineral
a bit thin, young, but not a bad whisky, the Brennereicharakter of Talisker is great, so he comes through with the youth ... the 10 is the (current) same price the better choice
