Never realy got to grips with Edradour, and this made me even more confused.
    • Nose
It's got peat, but it's neither briny coastal nor heathery highland. Some kind of weird sweetness to it.

      Scorched coconut shell?

A touch of iodine and some funky floral notes.

Moldy chip board that's been washed of with chlorine.
    • Taste
Peat smoked ham, with sugar icing.

Not terrible, but way too sweet.

Half way it's like chewing on a mouthful of moth balls and breath mints.
    • Finish
Dry and bitter on sigaret ash and stale wood.

      Peppery.

The breath mints sticking for quite a while.

[May, 2017]  Whenever I am on the road in Scotland I do some re-tastings using miniature bottles.  The bottling code is L16/501.

I have never been a fan of Edradour - in fact I found not a single Edradour release that really was to my liking.  Nevertheless I try regularly a sample simply to check if something has changed or if there is a "lucky punch" to my tastebuds...  But this time it is a blank draw again.  Ordinary peated stuff with an adstringent mouthfeel and sweet taste - as you find it everywhere these days.  If you drink it or not makes not really a difference (except for your blood alcohol level).  So please go for another try, lovely Edradour distillery...

Interesting whisky, quite peaty (reminds me Ardbeg) with rather pleasant nose and strenuous taste. However, it slightly lacks balance or lets say its balance is not very balanced :D There are bitter notes in the taste and aftertaste, which prevent me from enjoying it. Worth to try but not to buy (as for me)
    • Nose
Smoke, lemon zest, pear, dusty wood, green apple, rubbery and chalky notes, water releases butter and vanilla
    • Taste
Quite sweet, smoky, a bit peppery, tarry, walnuts, fruits (ripe apples and pears) some oatmeal, light oaky bitterness, malty notes
    • Finish
Medium-long, smoky, oaky, nutmeg, salty notes, slightly bitter and sweet

A strong representative of his guild with a clear structure. Unfortunately, more intensity than complexity. But definitely tasty and recommended if you like smoky whiskys.
    • Nose
      81 81
strong smoke after campfire and also some cigarette ash, sweet, moist rock, straw and hay, toffee, mango, plum jam, in the background sherry, notes of smoked bacon and iodine, fine vanilla cream, oregano, occasional citrus tips and yellow fruits
    • Taste
      72 72
musty cold smoke, bitterness and oak, sweetish
Herbal aromas like Ricola, spicy hotness, charcoal, very heavy and intense aromas overall
    • Finish
      71 71
does not bring much new, relatively much oak, pepper, spicy-nutty, herbal extract, soot, the ash and smoke components linger for a long time

  10. Torfding scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

    Aroma: sweet smoke, dark fruits

Taste: very intense and powerful, sweet, smoke, chili, leather, nuts, sulfur, burned dust on a hot bulb, somehow tasty

Departure: long-lasting and persistent, on the palate for a long time to be felt as fruit, lemon oil, salt, freshness

Comment: In its own way, really good, but in fact I still miss something in the taste. The Ballechin looks a bit monotonous. Nevertheless, a fine drop!
