- Half a year open now, and each dram again a "wow". The perfect Islay standard malt (young malt, agreed). PS: had to elevate my rating to 90 pts. Best possible for such a young spirit.
PPS (10.04.2016): Statement confined. Bottle now emptied, sad :..(
- I got a blind sample from Steve W110 ! Thanks a lot !
Rated the blind sample with 89 points.
Was a bit mixed up whether it was one of that expensive cask strength versions from Ben Nevis in that thickset bottle (the expensive ones between 130 and over 200 Euros) or a Lagavulin independent bottling (which it is, really ). When tasting the blind sample I thought that this might be a 200-Euro Whisky. I never thought that this killer could be available for only 39.50 € ! What a sensation !
Immidiately after opening the small 2cl bottle the wonderful aroma began to fill up the whole room, an unmistakeable sign for a top-malt ! Nose was wonderful. Initial taste also, it was full-bodied and rich despite of the use of a refill cask. The alcohol is perfectly embedded in all the wonderful aroma. Despite of being full bodied, the dram remains delicate and fragile all the time.
A bit of water brings out salammoniac notes, like the ones in salammoniac pastilles sold in german pharmacies. (german: Salmiakpastillen). The alcohol is so well embedded that I personally preferred to drink it neat.
I got notes of blood, flintstone (sign of youthfulness) which were delicious in this case, bottom round beefsteaks arranged with some allspice and very mild black pepper, oak wood and quite a good splash of blueberry jam on top, everything wrapped up in a layer of peat smoke.
Outstanding arrangement and balance, not a single note peaked out, perfect harmony of all the notes. A great dram.
Discovering this one was like finishing a dart leg with a 140 !
Tried to get hold of some, but I was delivered only with the sister cask #2724. Will check that out later.
- Once again a great unofficial Lagavulin!
A really great barrel. Super PLV
