  1. Thermidor scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

A solid, delicious Ledaig,. Signatory seems to have had a lot of these excellent ~10yo casks.

Thanks to member GIORGOS for the sample!
    • Nose
Inky, smoky, and somehow reminding me of Bellevue rum. Cigarette smoke and hay. With water, herbal and farmyard-like. The sherry seems to have integrated well with the peat.
    • Taste
Ashy and dark. No rubbery or gunpowdery notes, so the cask seems to have been of good quality. A big, burly beast, this one. I get the inky notes again, then some farmyard, then herbal tinctures and hard leather. Sometimes I forget how much taste there can be in a suitably casked Ledaig, and then bottlings like this come along to remind me...
    • Finish
Inky, peaty, ashy, and long. A tickle of gunpowder in the tail. Great stuff!

Deep sherry, concentrated flavours of dark fruits, chocolate and the typical dirty smoke, very good.

  8. OJK scored this whisky 91 points Expert Senior

Burned molasses, tar, rich forest fruit jams, pinecones, sweet herbal syrup, smoke and charcoal, caramelised nuts, mocha and candied ginger. Deep and rich flavours that are perfectly integrated without being overwhelming, and proceed with an assured elegance even at only 10 years old and with that super high ABV. Incredibly impressive

    • Nose
Strong, warm campfire smoke, a bit musty, greasy, with red fruits, sherry aromas, plums, berries, vanilla, quite sweet.
The alcohol tickles my nose a bit, is a tad too present for me.
    • Taste
      Here, too, the percent tickles.
Heavy ashy smoke and the red sherry fruits appear again. In addition, there is a herbal candy that is chewed on in the finish along with the smoke that makes the mouth become drier.

Not too intrusive, slightly sweetish smoke; Cowshed? City children, go to the village, cow smells very different :)
The high alcohol content is barely noticeable in the nose
    • Taste
      91 91
good onset, strong warming, but no sharp alcoholic burning sensation, here you notice the 60,6% actually not

Tastes something "dirty", peaty, brings a pleasant sweetness, waxy feeling on the tongue
    • Finish
      90 90
medium long and pleasant, the sweetness lingers even longer
also leaves some cold ashes in the mouth

A pity, I only had one sample

I wish I had bought several bottles of this excellent whisky..however I feel lucky enough to have tasted it ...with such an excellent base as the ledaig spirit and with flawless sherry casks the whisky industry can still do wonders...

A - for me - outstanding malt. Outstanding, because here for this young age and the acceptable price (just under 79 €) an extremely varied and impressive malt was created, which inspires me again and again. This is not "just" smoke, or "just" sherry, but the near-perfect symbiosis of these so different directions. If you have the opportunity, you should definitely try it.
    • Nose
It hits me straight sweet, almost syrupy Rauch.Zwischen cocktail cherries, the expected sherry aroma and many, many dried fruit, but still compete old leather and some sulfur for supremacy. In addition there are raisins, which are wonderfully embedded in the smoke. With some time in the glass, the smoke is a bit milder, the dried fruit and the sherry come out more clearly.
Wow, this malt is always a pleasure in the nose. A conglomerate of different and intense aromas, without even the slightest false note.
    • Taste
Here the alcohol has hidden, which one had almost forgotten in view of the mild Nosings. The malt lays on the tongue, which has washed itself. The 60,6% show their power and for a short time the association of a horse comes to mind, which has just caught me with a hoof kick. You have to like that - but I like it.
After the tongue has gotten used to the malt and the onset of saliva has naturally diluted the whisky, the flavors come to light.
Sherry, paired with a full load of dates and dried fruit, is the first thing that defines the picture. After a short time the malt seems to completely change. Now the peat sees the taste buds, it is smoky, peppery and somewhat phenolic. Faced with these tough enemies, the fruits and sherry disappear almost completely. A light impression of dark chocolate remains before the malt runs down the throat.
    • Finish
The finish is long, damn long. After a short while, the sweet fruits could show briefly, the smoke remains in the mouth. Tobacco and dry earth mix with saliva, but the description of the "ashtray" is not correct here. This is much more pleasant, balanced and somewhere too "sweet".

A great dirty stinker, an absolute grenade for just 10 years, must have been a highly active sherry keg, class!
    • Nose
Powerful smell of cow stables, sweet and sour smoke, smokehouse with ham, old leather couch, distinct sherry flavors, wood, some menthol, dark fruits like blackcurrants or blackberries, dates, maritime salt notes, salted meats
    • Taste
Strong smokiness, bitter notes of wood, saltiness and acidity, malty sweetness, with water appears more fruitiness, cola-effervescent powder
    • Finish
      Long and intense, dry, bitter

  34. Cicero did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

    the aroma (undiluted) is great
the taste can not keep up: pure too hot and diluted to expressionless; looks very young
but fair enough I have to say that Ledaig is not one of my favorites
    • Nose
      phenolic warm campfire
the 1st fill Sherrybutt is full
      burnt lye pastry (positive)

      with water:

gets fruity, the smoke is almost completely gone
But it also seems somehow youthful
    • Taste
      heavy alcohol,
      smoky obstetrician,
      cable fire

      with water:

there the smoke is again, but restrained
      sweet smoky fruits, honey
      That was it already
    • Finish
Hints of smoke and fruit, but also of a certain youth

  35. megabreit scored this whisky 88 points Expert Junior

Good for a mouthful of water to open
    • Nose
Alcohol barely noticeable, cold smoke, dark fruits with some mint, damp wood, which evaporates in the sun
    • Taste
Here, the alcohol is immediately noticeable, if not unpleasant. Fruity notes of plums and sulfurized raisins, light smoke, salt, cinnamon
    • Finish
long and warming, becoming drier Now this grade develops for me, which I would like to compare with Kuhstall.

  36. Torfding scored this whisky 92 points Expert Senior

A really great malt that still wins with the addition of water.
    • Nose
dry smoke, sour fruit, oak, empty stable, a little bit of stained cable insulation, which comes through more clearly when water is added, with water also the smoke is somewhat in the background, the medical more in the foreground
    • Taste
Chocolate, peat smoke, fruity, sherry, slightly peppery, with water distinctly salty and cold ashes; It tingles a bit in the rear back pockets, especially on the finish, like this crackling shower
    • Finish
medium long, sweet, peaty, with the addition of water longer and smokier, to be pleasantly bitter

  37. Angelos scored this whisky 91 points Expert Senior

    Fantastic!
    • Nose
Without water: pretty strong but well integrated sweet smoke ... and yes the cowshed of Ledaig is also there ^ ^; burnt caramel, ripe oranges With water: In addition, now comes a certain fleshy character, as known from older sherry matured Mortlachs.
    • Taste
Strong and pretty sweet start ... then Christmas time is announced; beautiful cloves and some cinnamon, juicy oranges, peaches and currants.
    • Finish
Long time business here. The sweetness remains, the smoke is a bit more phenolic / tarry, but everything is still in the pleasant area.

For 10 years already with considerable wood notes ..
    • Nose
Rum pot and again these typical perfume lavender notes Fruit allat., Peach, brittle
    • Taste
First, the alcohol starts. Has little depth. Without water there is little. With water a little sweeter and more fruity and the smoke gets through better . Also chocolate and espresso are there.
    • Finish
      Medium and dry

      the sole cowshed
with this typical pear schnapps note
fruity with water (the cowshed is delicious) the notes are rather weak except for the cowshed
    • Taste
      warm mouth
      chocolate
      smoke
      Pepp
Sweetness of bright fruits and popcorn
    • Finish
long very sweet and pleasant in the end, wet barrel flavors and sweet popcorn come

  43. Marko_I did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

great thing, full-bodied, intense, long, of the youth only the strength and nothing metallic, immature - succeeded.
    • Nose
surprisingly peaceful for 60%. beautiful dry bittersweet smoke, dried fruit, a little old leather, a little farm
    • Taste
burnt chocolate cake with raisins, some "hot electrics", tobacco, coffee, pinch of pepper & salt. fat.
    • Finish
long, smoky-sweet, mouthwash - you want to smack loud.

  44. irrerelevant scored this whisky 90 points Expert Senior

phenolic smoke, iodine, intense vanilla with caramel, cool ash, sweet cinnamon, cinnamon stars, syrupy, dates, sherry, solder flux / soldering fumes, tarnished cable insulation, electrics / leaking battery acid, ground black pepper
salty in the mouth, maritime, heavy smoke, the ashes are again present, slight bitterness to the sherry sweet, Slivovic
with water comes the beautiful dry bitterness on, Brazil nuts, "cold", sea salt, pleasantly rough and scratchy, There is something slightly metallic, as if one holds the tongue to an almost empty 9-volt battery, the smoke comes back a bit , the maritime notes become more apparent, goes well with the sherry barrel flavors.
Great stuff, very different, very smoky, rough and maritime with great sherry barrel, but no overloaded sherry wins out mMn with a little water

  45. Kantenmechaniker scored this whisky 92 points Connoisseur

What can I say. I expected a lot and got more.
    • Nose
I love smoke with sherry, a really pleasant smoke, lightly burnt chocolate fondue dipped in delicious dark fruits, raisins and plums blend in perfectly with your chocolate coating, no trace of the 60% alcohol, garnished with a peppermint leaf, harmony pure, after a long smell, I find, as so often with sherry, the typical hint of sulfur again, after the first sip the smell is even better, more intense, someone has scattered some cinnamon
    • Taste
Yummie, he comes with force, so here are the 60% remained, but not unpleasant, massive smoke, while still transporting the fruchitgen sherry on the tip of the tongue dances the chocolate, here is also a good pinch of salt in the game, what makes it dry
    • Finish
the salt note changes periodically from absent to middle of the face, at the back of the tongue holds an interesting tingling acidity from which the smoke is repeatedly distributed in the mouth, the second sip of the chocolate is more present and counteracts the acidity
