A - for me - outstanding malt. Outstanding, because here for this young age and the acceptable price (just under 79 €) an extremely varied and impressive malt was created, which inspires me again and again. This is not "just" smoke, or "just" sherry, but the near-perfect symbiosis of these so different directions. If you have the opportunity, you should definitely try it.
It hits me straight sweet, almost syrupy Rauch.Zwischen cocktail cherries, the expected sherry aroma and many, many dried fruit, but still compete old leather and some sulfur for supremacy. In addition there are raisins, which are wonderfully embedded in the smoke. With some time in the glass, the smoke is a bit milder, the dried fruit and the sherry come out more clearly.
Wow, this malt is always a pleasure in the nose. A conglomerate of different and intense aromas, without even the slightest false note.
Here the alcohol has hidden, which one had almost forgotten in view of the mild Nosings. The malt lays on the tongue, which has washed itself. The 60,6% show their power and for a short time the association of a horse comes to mind, which has just caught me with a hoof kick. You have to like that - but I like it.
After the tongue has gotten used to the malt and the onset of saliva has naturally diluted the whisky, the flavors come to light.
Sherry, paired with a full load of dates and dried fruit, is the first thing that defines the picture. After a short time the malt seems to completely change. Now the peat sees the taste buds, it is smoky, peppery and somewhat phenolic. Faced with these tough enemies, the fruits and sherry disappear almost completely. A light impression of dark chocolate remains before the malt runs down the throat.
The finish is long, damn long. After a short while, the sweet fruits could show briefly, the smoke remains in the mouth. Tobacco and dry earth mix with saliva, but the description of the "ashtray" is not correct here. This is much more pleasant, balanced and somewhere too "sweet".
