Whisky Reviews for Glendronach 1994

10 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 90.06 points

  1. dramspotter scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

The nose is not perhaps the most approachable of the Glenronach single cask releases, but this has a fantastic followthrough with the least off notes; high marks for consistent delivery
    • Nose
      87 87
tarry, faint liquorice, thick cut marmalade, resin
    • Taste
      89 89
      sweet, with aniseed gobstoppers
    • Finish
      87 87
short->medium; tannic and strong with strong Oloroso (rather than pX) tones - not the longest lasting but delivery a very decent punch

  2. St. Pauli scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Water is essential. Only then, it's very good. Otherwise this would have been under 85, now it's much better.
    • Nose
Sligthly musty, and it doesn't go away, even after 15 minutes. Further: medium dark chocolate, and dried fruit (raisins, figs, dates). Somehow, there is an undertone of mint. With water, it gets better. It's fresher, with orange blossom and dark sugar.
    • Taste
Rather sweet, but with an alcohol prickle and considerable acidity. It reminds me more of red fruits and treacle, along with mint, sugar, barley and milk chocolate. Again, water helps to edge off the rudeness of this whisky. It's almost as if you would be sipping from an actual PX. It's just more powerful.
    • Finish
Long, again rather on PX with dried fruit, a little bit of balsamico, and milk chocolate.

    Notes from the distillery
    • Nose
Aromatic, spiced sherry-poached pears sprinkled with Muscovado sugar surrounded by a deep, leathery character.
    • Taste
Dark chocolat covered rum raisins with a sharp twist of zest.
    • Finish
Treacle toffee and herbal oak spices in the traditional sherry finish.
