He has the bitter Mortlach notes, which I really like. Of course, not everyone likes that. For me actually a delicious malt. However, I still miss something.
    • Nose
These earthy, musty, mineral-colored Mortlach notes are relatively clear here. Also umami. With dates and figs. Menthol tobacco. Some blueberry. Slightly hinted at maybe a bit of wax.
    • Taste
Forest honey. Again the dates and figs. But overall less fruit than in the nose. For more sweetness. In addition wet leather and tobacco. Forest floor. Wine cellar. The oak is and brings a moderate spiciness.
    • Finish
These forest floor and wine cellar associations remain. Oak spice. Dark chocolate.

Some really pleasant notes of orange, eucalyptus, tobacco, cherry and even teryaki. But also too much wood in this one for me. Full review in german can be found here: https://keinehalbendrinks.de/2019/02/26/die-herrschaft-des-holzes/

This is a board, in the truest sense of the word. Thanks for the dram. With First Fill and 23 years of age, the wood input is definitely explained. Schwefel and Mortlach also go together. Massive malt. Almost a little too massive for me.

    • Nose
Somewhat closed, slightly tart sherry, red fruits, sulfur, tends to be sweet, with a strangely sour spicy note. Very idiosyncratic dram. Over time, other fruits, plums, eg more sweet, more vanilla, the oak spice is still fairly present and still has its sour note. Somehow exciting.
    • Taste
oh, a lot of oak, very spicy, a lot of wood to chew, but not too bitter, very nice. Sherry notes, sweeter this time, and lots of oak. With the second and third sip, however, the oak almost takes over a little.
    • Finish
the tart fruit and the sherry are always there in the background, but in the foreground the oak notes, a lot of wood, menthol, spicy, but sometimes a little too tart, are evident. The finish is more of mentholy oak at the end, quite dry.

A nice and well-developed Mortlach. Maybe it's not surprising, but the quality is good. I've you're overly sensitive for sulphur you might skip this one, but I didn't see it as a problem at all.
    • Nose
The signature meat stock tablets (maggi), further lovely on dried fruits (especially dates) but also some orange, honey, and also slighly sulphury (but pleasant in my opinion as it is limited).
    • Taste
Full-bodied, a tad salty, in which the dried fruit dominates, but the nutty side of olorosos plays the second violin. Further, there is milk chocolate, some tobacco and still a little sulphur.
    • Finish
Long, mainly on the dried fruits. Very pleasant, not drying at all.
