Yes, it starts right away - beeswax, citrus fruits, green apples. There is no doubt what is in the glass here. Very soft, round and aromatic with perfectly integrated alcohol. One could think purely from the rich, the dram has been significantly watered down - but it is not with 48.4%. I don't know what kind of "oak casks" were at work, but I think it has a touch of refill sherry - some cinnamon and brown sugar, as well as the apples from before, but slightly caramelized in the pan. A little citric acid, light oak spice, and then again vanilla and wax. No sulfur at all and only slightly mineral, this is a Clynelish on the track of the 14th OA with wax and fruits.
Furthermore extremely soft and round, you can feel absolutely no alcohol. Still strong and mouth-filling. Here, too, it continues as with the 14 with a little more power - beeswax, now a little more oak spice and still apples, citrus fruits and light sherry aromas led by brown sugar and caramelized apples. A little less sweet than the nose, heather, light mint, leather, pipe tobacco and malt. Interesting play between the very sweet aromas that fight against the bitter oak. This variety is delicious and adds depth and complexity to the dram. I would have believed it if he had been 10 years older.
Medium length, nice and warm but still with extremely subtle alcohol, again rather tart and spicy with a sweetness in the background. The wax is there, the fruits are there, but also the oak seasoning, the malt and the mint are now a little clearer. A spicy, slightly tingling layer remains on the palate and a waxy feeling on the tongue, as you know from a typical Clynelish.
A very tasty, typical Clynelish almost like it is in the book. The difference to the OA 14er is perhaps a little too small for the price difference, but a little more power and a little more complexity are certainly there and make this dram a few points better than the classic 14 OA. This bottle would be empty for me in no time, this whisky is so tasty - unfortunately I only have one sample.
N-91, T-90, F-90 for very tasty 90 points
