The most obvious (because so different) was the tasteful proximity to the Cachou sweets from the fair
a special whisky that tastes delicious
you certainly have to get to know the right understanding
    mmh, I like them indeed
    • Nose
Plum wine, wood smoke, small sour autumn apples
Water: dark, very dry chocolate, tropical fruits, spices
    • Taste
      Dark chocolate with plum wine,
      > Licorice, anise, turmeric
With comes the memory of the taste of the green Cachou sweets with the little liquorice crumbles
      > Wood smoke
      with a slightly bitter note
Water: significantly more dark chocolate, almost dark cocoa beans and light coffee
I like him better without water
    • Finish
medium, dry dark chocolate with barberries (sweet and sour), wood smoke, slightly bitter, but pleasant

A very animal Hanyu. We lick the sweat of bears in the forest.
    • Nose
      90 90
A nose that sends a kick directly to the head.
      It's definitely animal, wild.
Don't be afraid of the big bad Sherry.
We start with a big touch of leather, shoe polish cream.
      Grilled bacon, barbecue, hot coals.
      A light undergrowth, cigar.
      Then plum, fig, date.
A very light burnt plastic side, of sulfur. Fortunately, nothing excessive.
    • Taste
      88 88
In the mouth it is much more focused on sulfur. Almost liquid sulfur.
We also have prunes, dried fruits, bitter almonds, blackberries.
Still a lot of leather and shoe polish.
      Old wood, fireplace, coal.
    • Finish
      91 91
Long finish on blackberry jam, fir honey, tree sap, leather, fireplace, barbecued meat.

Wow, dream notes regarding the herbs and essences, as if you were in a market in rural Japan or rather even China, especially the departure is for some time the tastiest and most impressive I have had.
    • Nose
Very long leather dipped in caring oil, incense sticks with some cinnamon and frankincense aroma, plum wine, some pickled cherries and young figs, sour peasant apples, camphor, cumin, ginger, hints of anise, later dark chocolate and some licorice
    • Taste
Great cherry juice, plum wine, some espresso and dark chocolate, chestnuts, anise, cumin, turmeric, cardamom and fennel, eucalyptus, green tea, liquorice, licorice, a little baked apple, cinnamon, raisins, very nice oriental, pomegranate
    • Finish
Here, the tannins come through beautifully and all the herbs open even further in a drier way as in late tea-Schlücken, where there are some residue, warming, medium to long, incense sticks, frankincense and cherry, very delicious finish

I only had a small sample so added a little water so marks are appropriate.
I would need to try this neat for a more thorough scoring.
Good flavours and balance but fades too quickly, it basically runs out of steam.
Difficult for me to score, for the money you need to pay for this sort of whisky I find it incredible that someone can ask 6k euro on here for a bottle.
I know it is closed and rare and that makes a high premium inevitable but its like buying a Ferrarri and finding out the engine is a 1.2 suzuki power plant,
I get any closed distillery has a premium, I am a big fan of Brora and have had to shell out on that score but I could buy 3 or 4 OB Brora for the same price as this, why is it so expensive?????
    • Nose
      90 90
It is quite a sweet nose with crystallised orange, hints of burnt rubber, caramel waffles, lychee, sweet chilli and hints of furniture polish.
The fruit is there but it is behind sweet smoke of the cigar variety rather than burning wood and some ashy peat, what fruit there is burnt orange and grapefruit
    • Taste
      87 87
Very fizzy and fruity with a big blast of peat at the front but it is very dry with it.
This whisky is all front loaded on bitter fruit, ash, peat, and a few cake notes but after the initial pleasant blast of flavours there is virtually nothing with is really disappointing (finish)
There is also a chalky mouthfeel to it, lets see what else it gives?
Still vibrant at first and the peat has added a layer of complexity, the fruit compliments the sherry and fruit there is good balance on show.
The flavours are nice but there is too much fizz that prevents the fruit from bursting out.
    • Finish
      82 82
I tried this with a little water but the finish fades too quickly, nice but short.

Dried fruits, caramel, nuts, leather, spices, really enjoyable

  6. dram-drinker scored this whisky 81 points Moderator

Just too leathery for my taste
    • Nose
      85 85
Nutty, hazel nuts, raisins, old wood, little dried fruits, caramel, spices, nutmeg, hints of leather, whiffs of sweaty socks
    • Taste
      80 80
Creamy, subtle sweetness, more leather couch and boots, little nutty, sherry wood
    • Finish
      78 78
      Medium long, warm

The nose opens on a sherry dry and sulfur, animal, with very nice notes of leather, viandox, black powder, rubber, match heads. It gives all the tunes of peaty sherry. Then come the cocoa, the coffee, the currant jelly.

On the palate the texture is rich, thick. We find the sulfur sherry of the nose, but with the attack a tart touch evoking candied orange peel, balsamic vinegar. Not very complex, but delicious.

The finish is very long, marked by the wood and bitterness of cocoa. Excellent!

A bit sulphury but in a good way. Fantastic whisky for my taste.

    purchased sample
    • Nose
Slightly jammy with red berries and tropical fruit, chocolate malt, and a
pervasive saltiness in the undercurrent. Demerara type sugar and rum,
anise, herbal liqueur, and dense (if not lightly baked) oranges. (with
water) More bourbony wood here, if not just more 'bourbony.'
Interesting. Chocolate, pineapple, and a little citric. Pencil
shavings/graphite, cigar wrappers - very neat!
    • Taste
Fairly open here, but still a bit warm on the tongue. Much more tropical
fruit on entry, guava, pineapple, and passion fruit. Cool cantaloupe
and more fine oranges. The alcohol is a bit out of step and bitter at
the end-palate, though not a woody dryness. Just a touch of salt after
that. Nice. Let's see how it goes with water. (with water) Fruity and
citrus, really about the same, and the bitterness is slightly lessened.
      Fruit is also less distinct.
    • Finish
More orangy and tropical fruit melange. Touch of sherry and a grain of
salt. This was very good at points, solid at others, and then the
bitterness threw me. It wasn't the most complex, though it was a lot of
fun. I was surprised with the bourbony nose with water, but it's good
bourbon at least. B, and very nearly a B+, but I'm going to save some
      room for others.
