I really like it. The normal Connemara is a bit too weak, the CS a dream (but set), the 12 too weak in the peat. Since the Distillers Edition fits wonderfully pure. He gives the whiskey the sherry barrels (without this dominating) the necessary extra and the 43% are not wrong. If you like Connemara, grab. He is great.
    • Nose
the typical Connemara peat, slightly burnt plastic, phenolic and not too heavy. I like that, but that's what the ghosts are different. In the background cereal, sweetness, a light fruitiness, you can guess the sherry barrel, although the ex-bourbon notes dominate. In addition a fresh citrus fruitiness. So nice.
    • Taste
nice start, very spicy, some ham, peat smoke, slightly acidic fruitiness, a hint of sherry-barrel flavors, behind a bit "Connemara-Plastik"
    • Finish
Peat & oak, beautifully harmonious, with a subtle sweetness, some tobacco, and the whole quite long.

  3. Jonathan Kleß scored this whisky 85 points Expert Junior

Reveals soft spices and fruits in classic Irish fashion. In the end it's maybe a tad light, but the profile is pretty perfect.
Would certainly rival some similar Caol Ilas at a higher strength.
    • Nose
Medium. Rather peaty upfront. Coastal aromas of seashells and oysters. Twiggy-piney smoke. Smoked ham. Juniper. Also loads of sweet caramelised orange, lemon squash. Green apple candy.
Some plain barley. A cool metallic touch. Hints of vanilla and icing sugar.
    • Taste
Pretty oily, but light in flavour. Soft arrival. Baked apple, lemon juice, black pepper and brine. Then a nice blanket of cold smoke. Sunflower seeds.
Midpalate again shows juniper and more woody botanicals. Slight caramel.
    • Finish
As fresh as it gets and whistle-clean. Dry smoke, black pepper, juniper, lemon zest unripe green apples. Medium length.

  4. Totoro scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

Young, yeasty, fruity, peaty, creamy, with plenty of acidity and a "dusty" potstill impression.
Kind of the Irish equivalent to the Ardmore 12 y.o. Port Wood Finish in terms of character and price-to-performance ratio.
Solid sipping whiskey, perhaps a bit too weak for the advanced cohort.
    • Nose
      82 82
Banana puree, a few wild berries, rotting autumnal leaves, wet soil, manure, herbal/earthy "mainland peat" (rather then the maritime variety).
    • Taste
      84 84
A bit thin but nicely spicy and juicy from the mid-palate onwards. Pretty sweet and creamy throughout. Herbal, mildly peppery peat smoke meets strawberry and raspberry yoghurt.
    • Finish
      84 84
Pretty long and nicely dusty, with sweet-and-sour strawberry notes. Not too shabby, I'd say.

A tasty, charming and very neat Irish single malt! With about 35,00 € = a bit too expensive!
    • Nose
      flowery, fruity (apple, grapefruit), salt, some smoke;
    • Taste
      pleasant, mild, soft onset, fruity (again grapefruit, also raspberries), vanilla, oily, some oak;
    • Finish
medium-length, soft and fruity finish; in the end bitter, some oak

  6. Albaron scored this whisky 88 points Specialist

Tasty, everything fits together well, the smoke is surprisingly clear and is fun, so I like it. The green Irish notes are barely perceptible, which I think is good.
    • Nose
somewhat oily and also solvents, but then also the sherry notes, juicy raisins, which garnish themselves with a caramel note, to juicy oranges and finally also the slightly phenolic smoke with a very slight green note
    • Taste
Here, the sherries are much more dominant, the juicy raisins and oranges are clearly in the foreground, but then also the phenolic smoke, which connects nicely with the fruits after it shows itself. The green notes are virtually absent here and the caramel flavors are only slightly perceptible
    • Finish
The smoke and the sherry notes remain medium in length and then make a few tannins. At most here you can possibly perceive a youth

It’s an unusual Irish whiskey. It’s a peaty and double distilled. Peat, apple, dust, sweet fruits and vanilla are the main notes of this whiskey. Connemara is an easy to drink and tasty.
