  1. Bomshanka scored this whisky 80 points Expert Senior

    Inexpensive and relatively uninteresting young NAS malt that did'nt unseat anyone, and fairly weak despite 46% and Non-Chill Filtering.
    • Nose
      79 79
      Dry wood, slightly cardboardy, unripe pears and apples are distinct, but also some yeasty, bready notes on the end along with something sooty. Not very interesting but not unpleasant either.
      With water: Slightly more balanced and the fruit has some leaves from the tree in there suddenly.
    • Taste
      82 82
      The apples and pears are slightly more ripe now and has both some sweet and some citric elements, and even some sour berries. Young oak.
      With water: Sligtly less citric, but not very different.
    • Finish
      79 79
      Drying on sour tannins and the cardboard is back, medium to short

    Young, crisp and fresh! Unfortunately, a bit too dry and tingling to still cause palatability. This fire could be a real bringer with 3-4 years of longer aging in these barrels.
    • Nose
      Green apples, limes and lemons provide a lot of tart citrus fruitiness, clean barley, the scent of a freshly mown meadow, the juicy grassy aromas combine with the citrus fruits and create a mixture of lemongrass and lemon balm, some coconut, vanilla, lemon curd
    • Taste
      Brown sugar and acacia honey contribute to the initial sweetness, then it becomes tart and fruity again, green apples and limes, vanilla, crisp and noticeably young barley, lemon curd, green hazelnuts, sour kiwi, ginger, lots of mint and lemon balm
    • Finish
      Medium length, sparkling dry, noticeably young and somewhat alcoholic, the oak speaks up with some liquorice, green apples, lime zest, young tangy barley, lemongrass, cocoa, coconut and vanilla, lots of toasted oak

  4. Tomek scored this whisky 75 points Expert Senior

    Aroma: peaches, vanilla, Donald gum, molasses
    Taste: citrus, pepper, seeds of unripe apples
    Finish: wet cardboard, glucose
    Rating: 2

    n: intense vanilla, light, light peat, sweet, marzipan, nuts, almonds, caramel, creamy, coconut, green apple
    t: fruity, sweet, spicy
    a: warming, fruity, nuts, marzipan, orange peel, green apples

  7. Malthead19 scored this whisky 75 points Connoisseur

    - a good light summer whisky,
    - in terms of taste (for a bourbon barrel storage) it's a little surprise
    - classic, solid everyday dram without much depth and great intensity
    • Nose
      slightly fruity character, pear, significantly more fruit than sweetness (unusual for a 1st fill bourbon)
    • Taste
      fruity, light onset, becomes a little stronger on the palate (you can tell the 46%), here again significantly more fruit, pear, green apple
    • Finish
      short somewhat powerful finish,
      short fruity aftertaste with light oak

    very even in its youth and simplicity

    A neat highland single malt for the travel retail!
    [Color] white wine;
    • Nose
      fresh citrus, lemon, green apple, sour, light, vanilla;
    • Taste
      pleasant, light and sparkling, citrus, Williams pear, apples, honey, a little vanilla, not very complex;
    • Finish
      short finish; Aftertaste of light oak, spice;

    AnCnoc is the name of the whisky produced by the Knockdhu distillery (the malt was not named Knockdhu to avoid confusion with Knockando). You can guess it: Knockdhu means black hill and thus this malt is named after that. It appeared in 2014 as a Travel Retail Exclusive and matured on 1st fill American Oak ex-bourbon casks.

    Very accessible nose on breakfast cereals, croissants, liquorice candy (the one with the white sugary layer around it, very popular in Holland), mint, apple and citrus… Sprite! I cannot help being reminded of this soda drink. Far from earth shattering, but quite summery and pleasant.

    The body could have been a bit more… the taste is a perfect continuation of the nose, but more candy-like with a bitter element from the wood. Clearly some peat was involved. Cinnamon and cloves precede a buttered croissant. Some orange marmalade and some dark sugar emerge.

    The finish is the best part of this AnCnoc: long, candy-like but with a dark and sweet edge.

    If you put this bottle on the table while enjoying some sunny afternoon with friends, you’ll have to take a trip to the glass container before you know. Around 35 to 50 EUR, which is quite cheap for a liter of this whisky.

    Young, yes, but not too much so, and with some nice zesty punch from the first-fill Bourbon casks, including a decently oaked finish. Solid summer sipper.

    Maltstock 2017

    My humble input for this venue. Very easy to drink with mild notes from vanilla/butterscotch, fruit and grain. By the end of Maltstock my bottle was vanished! Didn't care less and I hope some people enjoyed it. ;-)

  14. Marko_I did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

    Delicious, rock solid NAS, nice basic character with interesting leg notes, by the 46% he has good strength and a neat finish, for less than 40 € / liter bargain and buy recommendation.
    • Nose
      Vanilla, honey, short crust pastry, shortbread, with a fresh sparkling note - immature apple
    • Taste
      jep - shortbread, biscuit, crunchy, grainy, with some orange marmalade, caramel and a bit of cinnamon and clove acuteness
    • Finish
      Wow, pretty long and "darker" than the color would expect, dark chocolate, pepper, even a hint of liquorice and what earthy-leathery

  15. Koloman scored this whisky 76 points Expert Senior
