    This time I have an octomore in a glass that was allowed to mature in American oak barrels and Syrah red wine barrels ... that sounds exciting and I am very happy to be able to try this whisky. 208ppm smoke content promise very strong smoke aromas and the alcohol content of 58.5% an enormous power, which I hope can still be enjoyed pure.

    In the nose I immediately have strong smoke aromas that combine wonderfully with a fresh fruitiness. Limes and grapefruit provide a sour note, vanilla reminds of a still moist cake batter, apples, apricots and a few red berries for a more present fruitiness than I expected in advance. And this smoke ... that's exactly what I'm looking for at the Octomores! Simply delicate, strong but not overlapping everything, great class! A malty sweetness, dark chocolate and black pepper are very pleasantly integrated, a few floral notes play around the nose ... it is just fun to smell this Octomore. Alcohol is well integrated for 58.5%.

    In the mouth the whisky is expected to be strong but at the same time creamy and mouth-filling. The smoke rolls over the palate, together with the great fruitiness and the sour limes and the grapefruit with slightly bitter notes. The thought of ash arises in the mouth, the smoke settles in the entire mouth and a little pepper and salt are added. I hoped that, but unfortunately not found it with every Octomore so far ... great! The malty sweetness fits wonderfully. But back to the smoke, which gives the mouth a little dryness on the second sip. Tannins are noticeable, on the third sip you can also feel a hint of burnt rubber and hints of licorice and licorice.

    The finish is long ... the smoke stays in your mouth and doesn't want to leave. Pepper and some ginger are surrounded by smoke, the fruity notes are still discreetly noticeable, but the spiciness and the smoky notes are the bosses in the ring! Leather, rubber, some salt and licorice also stay in the mouth for a very long time, the dark chocolate when smelled has turned into chewed coffee beans in the mouth.

    Finally an Octomore, which I really like. The interplay of strong smoke and fresh fruitiness is well done. The acidic notes are a bit too present for me and I would have liked a little more dark fruit. The smoke is a little too dry in the mouth, but it's still a really good whisky.

    I get good 89/100 points.

    Wow, what a thing. This Octomore is surprisingly soft and fruity compared to the Octomore 06.1 / 167. Of course, extremely malted peat, but this fruity freshness makes this Octomore something special. I like it!
    • Nose
      Fine malty peat pours out of the glass. An amazing freshness and fruit is clearly noticeable. A fine smoky note fights against the peat and loses significantly. Again, this light fruit. This fruit is just here, then again only sweet malty peat.
    • Taste
      Immediately a smoky smoky peat hits me. Short comes some fruit to light before the high alcohol content stuns the palate. After adding a little water, the second sip develops a wonderfully peaty aroma. A subtle smoke is above the peat. An amazing fruitiness fights through the peat and turns the peat into an incredibly soft peat aroma.
    • Finish
      How can it be otherwise, first only this fruity peat. Slowly, some smoke is added. The finish is surprisingly short and fresh. Actually, the finish is already long, with the fruity freshness of the peat of the departure relatively quickly neutralized.

    What a dram. This is arguably the best Octomore that I've tasted (so far);
    • Nose
      Wonderfully light, not pungent at all - amazingly this 208ppm whisky doesn't hit you in the face with peat at all. Fresh, fruity, then smoke.
    • Taste
      From the get go, it's clear that this 5 year old is holding up quite well to the peat. The peat is soft, adding a layer to a great and fruity whisky. If only this whisky had a little more age to it...
    • Finish
      Long and lingering. It stays with you a long time, going from fresh fruits to candycane, honey, vanilla and caramel and fading in smoke.

      Loads of earthy peat with lots of smoke (which actually comes across in a surprisingly mild way), slightly ashy, sea salt, piccalilly, mustard, pepper, butter, vanilla, oranges, lemons, peaches, wood shavings.
    • Taste
      88 88
      Salty, earthy, pu-erh tea, oily, vanilla, sweet and sour lemon, liquorice, chili peppers, mustard, black pepper and some ashy bitterness.
    • Finish
      89 89
      Very long: fading citrus notes, liquorice, chili peppers and charcoal.

    Aroma: Full smoke (was clear), then red berries. Apricot, cherries and cinnamon with some earth Taste: Oily, sweet, fruity (cherry and grapes) and fully smoky. Typical Octomore !!! Finish: Smoky with red fruits. Vanilla and oak Conclusion: Horny part for the Top Price 2018 !! For me now the best Octomore (have tried the 6.1, 6.2, 7.1, 8.1 and 8.2 until now)

    A complex, smoky whisky with a long finish. Can easily tolerate a few drops of water. You do not notice his young age at all.

    Big peat, but not so much that finally with an immediate sweetness too. There is red fruit here, as well as malt. Super frank attack on the palate, very spicy, very intense. Very long on peat and cold ashes.

    Enthusiasm 4/5

      Smoky, slightly sour, asbestos, tar, sourdough aroma, far away a hint of vanilla. Doesn't hurt enthusiastic but neither ...
      A while later a little more open with light fruit notes.

      * with a little water:
      Yes, now yes, smoky and sweet, fruity and floral aromas, spices, a touch of Fee's pumpkin compote with cloves. Has a creamy, pleasant effect, triggers salivation. Light citrus aromas.
    • Taste
      91 91
      At the start, smoky, sweet and spicy, oily, tar, slightly fruity, light barrel note, softening, not bad ...

      * with a little water:
      Smoky-sweet-spicy, sweet tar, yes also fruity, everything finely interwoven, also here a light barrel and coffee note, spices, trace herbal aromas. Not alcoholic, but intensely smoky and good!
    • Finish
      90 90
      Very long with: wood / oak, barrel / coffee, slightly fruity, becoming dry at the end, soft with smoke and ash, at the very end again sweetish with light bread aromas ...
