in the beginning it is somewhat volatile and quite thin on the nose - but with time ( … a lot of it …) the aromas come together and it gives many subtle complex notes to experience.
Bottle is open now for quite a while as well.
But in the depth it remains a bit weak although it joins the other aromas towards the end and does not remain that separate.
    A light dram.

    Tasting with FineSpirits_butler1. (Feb. 2015)

    Bottle code: 13/481
    • Nose
apples, grapes, sourness from Sherry cask with a lot of citrus, pear, quince, 'cool' barley (quite substantial compared to the quite volatile notes of coffee, rasins, … in the beginning), wood, hints of smoke, apple juice, from the distance you get Sherry with sweetness of caramel, pepperish spice, hints of old coffee grounds, whiff of cherry, barley is turning more sweet, caramel, hints of nutmeg, hints of tart plum jam, milk chocolate, rum raisin nut - chocolate, hints of plastic and rubber bands, mint tea, hints of coconut peel, hints of sulphur and extremely 'compressed' spicy wood, after the first sips this is getting much more round with depth with toffee, something smoked, some citrus and noble tart cocoa
    • Taste
a lot of citrus with prickle, wood, fruity feeling, some Sherry cask, spices in combination with alcohol, grapefruit, gooseberry, fiery, smoked caramel, long, hints of sulphur in the distance, barley, cleaning milk, grapefruit peel, dark cherry juice, rye bread, red wine, cocoa powder, orange and some lemon, sweetness, spices, pepper and some salt, cocoa cookies, something sour, 'lifeless' wood, some leather, clear Springbank
    • Finish
Sherry with a lot of citrus (grapefruit, …), wood, cask, toffee smoke chocolate, some peas, spices, plums, heavy champagne, aftertaste of pralines, wood is fading, something green, lemon salt

I bought the bottle around 8-9 years ago (2013 release) and initially (over the first 3-4 years) didn't like it at all - it had a sulphur character, which I unfortunately found very often in modern Springbank.

Recently, the bottle stands on the bottom shelf to ignore it more easily, I decided to give it another try:
The dram developed to the positive.
The breathing and bottle aging helped to get rid of the major part of the sulphur, opening to the depths, so you don't hit a wall anymore when nosing. Well-rounded, glowing, sweet and full. This is reflected also on the palate. Aftertaste is solid with oak feelings, not the old school of course but also not the modern flat type.
    Interesting!

Develops in the glass and is getting deeper and deeper: Give this single malt its time; it's worth waiting.

There are some (what I call) 'earthy' and sulphury notes you may find throughout if you get too involved with this part - for me this aroma doesn't really fit into the whisky. Don't know where it belongs to: Maybe it emerges from the combination of refill butt and peat. But you can pass it though.

The wood partially seemed to be a bit lifeless also on the palate.       It is a light dram without a kick. I prefer the Longrows of today.

    Tasting with Armin Fuchs.
    • Nose
fruity sweetness is in space (cherry marmalade), nectar, red fruit gum, light and sweet caramel, dulce di lecce, custard, salt, cider and fresh apples, some peat and smoke (sometimes peppered), oak, pear, chocolate, a lot of citrus with sourness (lime juice and grapefruit), rises in the glass, spiritus, hints of dry sherry (inconstantly), freshness, cheery, some complexity, marshmallows, orange, fresh osier, pineapple, you may recognize coconut, gets deeper and darker with toffee after a while, milk coffee and - chocolate, hints of coffee with cream, honey, fresh cut herbal meadow, plum cake with crumble mixture, some ideas of smoked ham
    • Taste
pineapple, lot of citrus (grapefruit), sour, sweet, smoke from time to time, peat, oak with spices, salt, crust, some nut, banana with chocolate and cocoa, intense/fiery, hints of milk coffee into espresso, spiced apple peel, orange, cherry (sour), plums, paprika powder, maybe clove, grain and leather, something 'earthy'/sulphury
    • Finish
citrus with some salt, fruits, peat with some toffee, spiced apple peel, cask, cocoa and dark chocolate, oak, acacia honey, berries (raspberry syrup), rum raisin, candied peel, leather, long and intense finish

This bottle tasted here has the code 13/481.

Have mixed feelings about it: After sitting in the glass for nearly half an hour (and after 2 sips already) the nose starts to open up in roundness

(bottle has been open for soon a year now).

But when compared to the old bottles of the 15 yo (mid 90s), it doesn't reach that known deepness. Nevertheless it is getting complex and round.
