Whisky Reviews for Inchgower 1989 HL

  1. St. Pauli scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

This is a powerful whisky. It has had sufficient but not overpowering wood influence, leaving space for the spirit to blossom too. The result is a complex, slightly earthy/musky/fruity/malty/herbal whisky.

      Colour: pale to yellow gold
      Appearance: thick, quick legs.

This is great. The nose is rather "robust" or manly, without being smoky. It's on the edge of fruity and musky. Overripe apples, raisins (such as in apple pie), musk, a forest on after a summer rain shower, wood and spice (cinnamon).
    • Taste
      89 89
Full-bodied, assertive, both sweet and acidic. The apple remains on the foreground, now more on apple juice. Then: crumble cake, lemon curd, wood smoke, Dutch "sterrenmunt" tea (mix of fennel, aniseed, liquorice root and mint), and vanilla.
    • Finish
      89 89
Long, both fruity and spicy with the right amount of wood. It's still a combination of malty (cake), fruity (apple), slightly musky/earthy and herbal (rather than spicy).
