Whisky Reviews for Talisker 1972 DL Talimburg

4 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 89.46 points

  1. lincolnimp scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Smells powerful, yes you can tell it is Talisker it is unmistakable, peat, pepper, brine and sherry with dark fruits, nothing more to say really.
Plenty of pepper and peat with a really juicy ripe plum skin note (or similar) which I think is lovely.
It is slightly flabby on the palate, slightly flat that sort of thing but the balance is very good, everything is in harmony.
Yes it definitely has a flat spot mid palate , it is like a good meat pie that has not a lot of meat in the middle it is all around the edges so the start and finish are good but mid palate is a little boring even with the nice fruit note.

Had hoped a bit "more", where "more" actually means "less dry", I was a tad too bitter in the mouth, could have been quiet even slightly more rum influence.
    • Nose
Exciting, if you know of the finish, you will notice at the beginning of the notes clearly, Rumrosinen, slight Esthernoten and sweet toffee, but this flies after 3-5 minutes and you have virtually no more rum, typical Tali-Parma ham comes, blood orange, Nutmeg, black pepper, like normal sherry barrel then, pagan grass, salt, tree resin, pine nuts, liquorice
    • Taste
Black Forest ham, nutmeg, black pepper, oregano, parchment, wild honey, heather grass, old licorice, lead, cold ash and dry algae, encrusted salt on an oak plank, dried herbs, malt
    • Finish
Rye bread, Earl Gray tea, malt, nutmeg, long, dry-bitter

  4. Baanaanaabob scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

Delicious talisker with nice maritime notes, a bit of spiciness, herbal notes
